SIR HEATON RHODES.
RETURN FROM DUNEDIN. The Hon, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes returned to his home at Tai Tapu last evening from Dunedin, where he had been attending the annual meeting of tho New Zealand Red Cross. Speaking of the Exhibition, Sir Heaton said he had paid most attention to the Defence and Forestry Departments' exhibits. The Defence exhibit was an excellent one and was now complete. The Forestry exhibit would be complete as soon as the different timber exhibits had been labelled. It would prove of great educational value. SawmDlesrs' Depntiatioii. Sir Heaton Rhodes stated that before he had left Dunedin, a deputation of timber millers had waited on him in connexion with the matter of duty on forest timbers imported from the United States, Canada, and Sweden. Very large quantities of American cedar were being imported into the Dominion. The timber millers stated that some of the nulls m Southland were working only half time or were closing down because of the competition from imported timbers. Sir Heaton Rhodes promised to place the matter before Cabinet.
