Banker himself, with a. full brother, Beacon, won the silver cup at Peterborough Hound Show for the best couple of harriers With a view to gaining the distinction of being the first lady aviator in the Dominion Mrs Gladys Sandforo, I of Auckland, reported at the Wigram Aerodrome yesterday afternoon, and is to commence a course of training on Monday. Mrs who is the wife of a pilot in the Royal Air Force in England, and who was a nurse in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, made her first flight in Egypt. Her object in learning to fly is that she regards it as in the nature of a business proposition, and when she has gained a oortifioate it is her intention, if she finds no lucrative opening in the Dominion, to go to America. The following pupils of Miss Digby'B Commercial School have been successful in obtaining Pitman's Shorthand Theory Certificate as the result 'of an examination held last month. Pohutu Geyser was enjoying itself immenselv on Monday morning, says tho "ltbtorua Chronicle. 1 ' Shortly after six o'clock a splendid shot rose high above the valley. Tho functions of = the late Wairoa Geyser are being very well attended to by its more versatile understudies, Pohutu and Prince of Wales' Feathers. The first Welsh cobs to be imported to the Dominion were brought by the steamer Mahana. which arrived at Auckland from London on Tuesday. The animals, which were brought by Mr J. Carruthers, of Otago, consisted of two mares and a stallion. Mr Carruthers also had four other horses in his charge, including two Clydesdale colts. Under the stress of excitement an old "Wanganui lady voted' twice at the recent election. Sho voted once and then walked over to another table at the same polling place and voted again, remembering evidently, the injunction to "vote early and often." Before the Court, defendant said she was sorry for what sho had done. She was imprisoned until the rising of the Court. A request from the Auckland Theatre Proprietors' Association for permission to open theatres on Christmas Day was received by the City Council on Thursday evening. It was stated that provision had been made whereby any employee not desiring to work on that day would be relieved of duty without prejudice to his position. Scott, officer in charge of the war graves section of the Internal Affairs Department, when describing: the cemeteries at To Henui and St. Mary's, New Plymouth. "They are a credit'to the people concerned," added Mr Scott, who spent a whole clay in inspecting tho plots in which the Maori War and Great War soldiers are buried.

Shortly before 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon a motor-cycle and side-car, ridden by J. D. Cairney, leaped through the plate-glass window of Seigerfc Bros.' shop, at 151 Manchester street. It is not known how the cycle cleared the gutter and struck the window, which is high above the level of the street. Fortunately the driver escaped without injury. The damage to the window amounts to about £SO. Are there in existence any of the original bricks that were landed, seventyfive years ago, or before that, at "The Bricks," near the Barbadocs street bridge? If anyone knows where they arc to bo got, the secretary of the Citizens' Unemployment Committee (Mr E. B. Owen) will be glad to have the information. It is hoped that the committee will have the site beautified in time for tho celebrations of the seventyfifth anniversary of tho founding of Canterbury. To mark a site of such great historical interest it is proposed to raise something in the nature of a cairn, and if some of the original bricks can be traced, it is intended to incorporate them in the monument.

A useful presentation in the form of 16 kerbing 6tones has been made to the Summit iioad Public Trust by the Christchurch City Council. Seven of these will be converted into milestones and placed along the Summit road between the toll-gate at Dyer's Pass and the Ahuriri Bush. The carving on the stones will be done by Mr J. B. Mansfield and each stone will bear the altitude of the spot on which it stands. After the mileages have been checked along the Summit road between Dyer's PasTand Evans's Pass milestones will also be placed along that road. Mr W. T. Charlewood has presented the Trust with several genuine antiques which he secured recently in England. These comprise two old English warming pans, a chestnut roaster, and an old English roasting jack. These have been placed in "Mr Pickwick's" room at the sign of the Takaho and have attracted a good deal of attention. Something for toilet use, is ever acceptable by womenfolk. The coach work is finished in a charming shade of nutria fawn, and has a nickel-plated radiator, which enhances its appearance. Tho New Beauty meets with tho enthusiastic approval of everyone who has seen it, and a "Press" representative, who was present at an inspection yesterday, heard on all sides: "A wonderful job," "Best value on the market," etc., etc It is really no wonder why such a large number of orders have been booked for the "New Beauty."
