"WILD AUSTRALIA."
WEDNESDAY NIGHT'S ENTERTAINMENT. The interest evinced in the Bodeo and "Wild West Show, to be held at English Park Stadium on "Wednesday niffht, promises a great gathering of pleasure-seekers. Never before has such an entertainment been staged at the Park, and patrons will have the opportunity of witnessing scenes of the kind known only in the back'bloc&s. The bucking horses, imules, donkeys, and ponies were secured by Mr John* from Australia fcr use at the Stadium, and thereafter at the Dunedin Exhibition. Stubborn mules, bucking donkeys, fresh ponies and calves will take part in an entertaining and novel programme. Vic Cowan, the Australian buckjmnping -champion, has been engaged, and will give an exhibition of butflcjumping and noveltv riding. . Other items include:—Musical Chairs Competition, on horseback, for prizes of JE2 and £1 ; Pony Trot (under 13 hands), of four laps, prizes SH and £1; Mule-bucking Competition, open to all-comers; Surcingle Bucking Contest; and Novice Bucking Contest, on donkeys, and a Bullock-riding Competition. The greatest comedy of all will b6 ' Fun in the Stockyard." when calves, mules, ponies ,and donkeys will be let loose, and youths will endeavour to catch and ride them. In addition to the "Wild West" Show, the management will sta£e a five-mile motorpaced race between Willie Mackie, of Christ; church, and Mick Fitzgerald, of Australia. The riders will start alongside one another: This is the first time that this data of race has been held in the Dominion. In spite of the fact that Fitzgerald is one of Australia's 'best motor-paced riders, Mackie is confident of being able to hold his own over the five miles. This Tace is arousing an unusual amount of interest, and the result is being eagerly looked forward to. Last Saturday there was a dispute over the action of the ■oaoemaker in the match between Mick Fitzgerald and Cyril Sowden, and in order to prove which rider lfl the better of the two, the authorities h»v© put up a. substantial stale for a. half-mile .race between the two riders. The race will oe a half-mile pursuit race., the riders starting on opposite sides of the track. The programme outlined above v the meat attractive ever submitted to the Chrislchuroh public, and will appeal to all classes of the community. The grounds have been specially illuminated for the occasion. The first event ia timed for eight o'clock. Popular pncea axe being charged.
