Jan. 16—Wellington T.C. Summer. TURF GOSSIP. Acceptances for the Mcthven Racing Club's Annual Meeting, which is to be held on the Riccarton Racecourse on December sth, close at 8 p.m. on Monday. A special passenger train will leavo Christchurch at 7.5-5 a.m. to-day, arriving at the Washdyko Racecourse at 11.29 a.m. The weather in Tiniaru yesterday was fine, and prospects of a better day for tho conclusion of the South Canterbury Jockey Club's Spring Meeting seemed bright. Good acceptances were received, and the racing should be interesting. Frisco Mail's rise of 151b in • the Levels Hurdle Handicap is quite justified by his easy win in tho Otaio Hurdles, and even with 13 6 up his chance of winning again is good. With the race into him Projector might teat him more fully than ho did on Thursday, but as with the others the Forroby gelding need to show improved form to beat the top weight. Volant has a lob of weight in the Juvonilo Handicap, but .over so short a course as five furlongs this might not troublo'him. Corn Money should also run. well, as should tho Gay Lad two-year-old Young Locliinvar. With 8 5 in the South Canterbury Handicap ;Momos?ide should run « great race. The class she is nicotine is certainly better than that which Bho met in the President's Welter, but tho drop 'from 9 6 to her present •weight is sufficient to balance matters. Her owner also has Happy Days in the race, and should he be the elect, then Retrospect will be his strongest opponent. - Miss Winkie- will hare an opportunity, in the Claremont Hack Handicap _to make amends for her defeat in the Kerrytown Hack Welter. Neither of the two who finished in front of her on' Thursday will be opposing her today, but Gay Queen and His Majesty are almost certain to bo quite as stroitg in opposition atsjx furlongs.

Royal DespatciT should beat Serotina in the Trial Handicap, and these two will bo backed to beat the field, of which on first dav's form only Receipt is likely to trouble them. IJrijiht Mark will l>o a bard horse to beat in the Stewards' Welter, if started in this race in preference to the Farewell Handicap. The field contains the names of others which have dual engagements, and it will be difficult to estimate the strength of the field until starting time. Gay Queen and Sarty, havipg shownform on the opening- day, will be solidly supported in the Kingsdown Hack Welter, in which Cornflower and Coch-y-bondhu also should have a big following. Eaton Bells did so well in the Flyintr Handicap on Thursday that she- is fairly certain to be well supported in the Farewell Handicap. The raceshould improve her, and she should again beat all those who opposed her on Thursday, and 1 perhaps the fresh horses, Orchid and Economist, too. The Takapuna Jockey Club's Spring Meeting .and the Fcildiim Jockey Club's Spring Meeting will be commenced to-day. Owing to the death of Mr "W. Foss, owner of Kainehameha and Tuscan. both horses have been scratched for all engagements at the Takapuna McetiiiS.

TROTTING NOTES. Weather permitting the outside of the course proper at "New Brighton will.be open to-day for horses engaged at the coming meeting. Good nominations have been received by the Wcstport Trotting Club for its Midsummer Meeting. Amongst the. horßes engaged aro Great Form, Marshall .Neil, Biddy Logan, Denver Wood, Honey wood, Nourmahal, Stella Ashley, Golden locanda, Logan Kin£> Locanda Boy, Teramoa, Avenger, Zclica,- Taipoiti, Black Cloud, and Rita Rye The locally-owned and trained. Sunny Jim, who competed in tho unhoppjed events at Otahuhu, has been planed with G. PKipps, and in future wiL' bo trained at Alexandra. Park. .After his moderate display at Auckland, O. ID.' Hooper decided not to persevere with Harris, and in future the sor. of St. KoVin will raco in tho interest of the Auckland mentor, H. Kinnimont. The Forbury Park T.C. has receiyod satisfactory acceptances for its Spring Meeting, the list including Delavan's Quest, Dolly Dillon, Black Admiral, Bell Harold, Whispering Willie, Main Voyage, Queen's Own, Willie Logan, Roicole, Pearbo Chimes, Awamoa, Native Chief, Young Blake, First Fashion, Happr "Rosa, Le Todd, Nighborri,''Money Spider, and Woodlass. Si* high-claes pacers figure in the Exhibition Free-for-AU, Great Bingen, Machine Briok, Realm. Minton Derby, Logan Chief, and Willie Logan, and it should prove on© of the finest- contests seen in the south. A special horso train from, Christchurch to Duncdin has been arranged by the-Canterbury Owners' and Breeders' Association on Tuesday to convoy horses engaged at tho Forbury Park T.CVs Spring, Meeting.. .It will leave Cnristahureh at 3 .a) -a;m., stop at ■Sockburß, Ashburton, and Timaru, and arrive at its destination at 5.10 p.m.

Acron and Peter Swift will not race at JTorhury Park, and Great Bingeu and Frisco Beau will carry Mr J. R. McKendc's colour's at the Southern fixture. KAIKOURA R.C. - ANNUAL MEETING.
