N.Z. STUDENTS.

AT HOME UNIVERSITIES. MEDICAL SCHOOLS. (fBOU OT7B OWH COBHISPOHBMT.) LONDON, October 20. From information officially sent me by the University authorities, it seems that there are at Cambridge twentytwo New Zealand students and about the same number at Oxford. Emmanuel Collese, Cambridge, has nine; Jesus College, fire; Balliol College, Oxford, has five, and Magdalen four "Freshers." As for the medical schools, there are four students at Guy's as well as two New Zealand practitioners who are attending for special course in connexion with the F.R.C.S. Final. At Oxford. Kt Balliol College, Oxford, the New Zealand men are: R. & Aitkeo, 1924 Rhodes Scholar (Gisborne High School and Otago University), who is taking Medicine; J. A. Buchanan (Forestry), K. R. Buchanan (Law), W. P. Morrell (History Research), and W. S. Dalgety (Christ's College), a freshman, who will take Law.

The four Freshmen at Magdalen are: D. E. Dennv-Brown (New Plymouth and Otago University), a distinguished and promising voung medical student, who was elected to a Beit Memorial Fellowship last June, and who has cono to Oxford tn pursue advanced. Physiological Research under fair U Sherrington, the eminent neurologist; Richard Bethell (Wangar.ua and Amuri), a freshman who captained the boa* at Wanganui; J. M Chambers (Havelock North), and L. E. Clark (Christchurch). All four were formerly at Wanganui Collegiate School. There are two New Zealanders each at St. John's, 'Oriol, and Brasenose; J. F. Courage and M. A. Young at St. John's, the one reading English, the other taking Languages and Literature: at Oriel axe Geoffrey C. B : bbs (Christ's College), who is taking Law and Literae Humaniores, and Ronald Syme (Eltham), who resigned tho Assistant Professorship of Classics at Auckland University College to come to Oxford. At Brasenose are IX P. Scannell (Hastings), who took a Second Class in the Final Honour School of Law last term, and D. F. Gorringo (Wanganui), who has gone into residence as a Btudent of Forestry. At New College is J. A. Dunning, 1925 New Zealand Rhodes Scholar, from Auckland, who will he reading for the Final Honour School of Mathematics. At Keble College the only NewJSealander is Lionel A. Mathias (son of the Rev. H. H. Mathias, also a member' of Keble, who took his degree there in 1887, and has lately gone back to New Zealand .after a visit to England). Mr Mathias matriculated last week, and is now studying for Honours in Natural Science (Chemistry). There is one New Zealander each at Hertford and Wadham —namely, C. F. R. Bell (Christchurch), who takes Historv and English Literature; and E. J. Baldwin, B.A. (Wanganui College), reading.for Medicine.

The Cambridge Men. Freshmen at Emmanuel College, Csabridge, include: R. J. Bennett (who will take English)j N. Hawken (Law), A. J. L. Sadlier (ifinglish). Others who read Law are J. F. St. B. Barclay (Christchurch), and P. H. Wood. J. W. Hinton takes Physics, N. M. Louisson (Auckland) Economics, J. N. Peart (Raglan) Mathematics —he took the Tripos, Part 1., last June—and H. E. W. Robertson (Medicine). New Zealanders resident at Jesus College are: H. S. Buckland (Dunedln), whose subject will be Medicine; G. F. McHardy (Palmerston North), in his second year, taking Agriculture; E. H. B. Neill is also a student of Agriculture, while N. Williams, B.A. (Gisborne), is reading Theology, and S. K. Gardner (Old Boy of Wanganui), whose subject, is History Honours, Part I. being successfully taken last June. Trinity Hall has four New Zealanders, two being freshmen and two in their second year. The former are: I. A. J. Blyth (Modern Languages), and I. C. Horton (Auckland) Geography. The second year students are J. B. Elliott (Auckland), who is a? Law student, and K. R. Bloomfield (English). Elliott is a tennis player and the other three row. A freshman at Pembroke is C. S. Harcourt, who will probably take Mathematics. J. S. Yeafes, Trinity College (Victoria University College) was awarded a Research studentship in New Zealand in August. Ho has arrived, at Cambridge to take up Research studies.J. R. Wilford (Canterbury) is still at Christ's College, reading for the Theological Tripos. Ho is the son of the Rev. Canon J. R. Wilford. and last July he was awarded the Gell Ttehrew Prize. He was elected vice-captain of tho College football fifteen. Medical Men. New Zealand medical students at Guy's Hospital are: P. Berry, E. T. Clifton (Auckland), E. H. Roche (Auckland), and J. W. Scholium (Auckland).' Dr. R-. P. S. Kelp an, recently on the staff of Auckland'lTosptl'al, and Dr. J. W. Costello are attending Guy's for a two-months' special course for the final F.R.C.S examination.

Dr. A. Perry (Wellington and Dunedin) has passed his F.R.C.S. examination in Edinburgh, and now is at London Hospital Medical College as a post-graduate student, with an appointment for six months. During the winter Dr. Perry will be playing Rugger for the Hospital. Mr H. W. Sadlier (Nelson) who went to Emmanuel College, Cambridge, at the end of 1919, to take Medicine, is now at St. George's Hospital Medical School, London, doing clinical work for the final examination of the Conjoint Board and Cambridge University. At the present time there are five New Zealanders taking their medical course at Edinburgh University. Three of these are in their fourth year, namely, lan B. Ewart and Alister E. Young (Wellington), Hyman Shenkin (Auckland). They are taking lectures in midwifery, senior _ 6urgery, senior medicine, forensic medicine, and public health, and clinical work in medicine and surgery. The other two, both in their third year, are Edward G. Gibbs (Wellington), and Lionel R. Hetberington (Thames), who are taking lectures in junior medicine and junior surgery, materia medica, pathology, clinical medicine, and clinical surgery! Lady Students. The only New Zealand lady student at Oambriidge 6eems to be Miss Lucy Granville Hogg {Cbristchurch), who is reading History. She has entered upon her eecond year. Miss 0. E. Wylie (Palmerston North) is taking Institutional Administration at King's College for Women (University of London), Household and Social Science Department. Degrees Conferred. In a congregation in the SbeHonian Theatre, Oxford, a large number of degrees were conferred on October 15th, Arr\rmfr the B.A. recipients were K. R» Buchanan (Balliol College), and A.
