SUMNER ITEMS.

All Saints' (Hunch. To-morrow evening the Eev. H. N. Wright, vicar of Lower Biccarton, will preach at All Saint 3' Church. Salq of Work. The children of the Bible Classes and Sunday School are busy preparing for their sale of Christmas gifts and concert to be held next week in aid of the Sunday School extension fund. Visiting Missionary. Miss M. Woods, a missionary from China, has been staying in the parish for the week, and has met many parishioners, who have been very interested in her account of life there. Bedcliff3 Mission Boom. The Eev. S. Parr is to be the preacher to-morrow night, on the eve of the Patronal Festival. A social gathering of parishioners is to be held on Thursday. A very successful garden party was held last week at the residence of Mrs "Woods, "The Spur." All worked together with a will, and the "Women's Guild is to be congratulated on the success of their effort. Horticultural Society. Tho arrangements for the SumnerEedcliffs Horticultural Society's annual show next week are well forward, and the entries promise to be. quite equal to last year's record. The patron of the society (Mr W. H. Nicholson) has consented to open the show, which, if the weather prove favourable, should provide a fine display. Classes which hitherto have not been well supported have been dropped this year, and this will give the stewards the opportunity of more effectively staging the classes which have been retained. Tire Brigade. There was a full attendance at a meeting of the Sumner Firo Brigade held during the week. Correspondence was received from the Dunedin Demonstration Committee', and it was decided to send a team of five members to compete. Praetice is to commence immediately. To enable the local representatives of tho Brigade to attend the competition, a fete is being arranged for later in the year. Bedcliffs Bowling Club. At a meeting of the committee of the Kedcliffs Bowling and Croquet Club it was decided to open tho new bowling green on December 16th. A working bee, under the supervision of Mr C. E. Allen, set to work on Labour Day, and erected a temporary pavilion for the use of tho croquet and bowling members. The thanks of the club are due to a number of business friends for supplying hardware and joinery. The green is in a forward condition, and members are looking forward to a successful and pleasant opening day. Personal. Mr and Mrs B. T. Menlove have returned from a visit to Hanmer Springs. Mrs Charles-Clark (Cashmere) is a guest at "Beachcliffa." Concert. An excellent programme was given in the Sumner Town Hall on Thursday evening in aid of the funds of the Sumner District High School. Amongst the performers were: Misses Mollie Cummings, Joan Hughes, A. Partridge, Bessie Brown, Ryan, and Charlotte, Joan, and Eileen Carter, Messrs R. Beveridge, W.. Cookson, W. Joll, and S. Hawker, E. L. Cordery, and L. Campbell.
