COUNTY COUNCILS

SPRINGS. The monthly meeting of the Springs County Council was held at Springston on Thursday. Present—Cis. A. Thompson (chairman), C. H. Wateon, B. Tact, E. H. Rowell, J. & Simpson, and J. H. Williams. The secretary of the Lincoln Recreation Ground Committee asked the Council's assistance to complete the .purchase of ten acres of land for recreation purposes. The committee had acquired the land, and was using various means of raising money to complete the purchase. The clerk said a grant could only be made under the heading of unauthorised! expenditure. It was decided to hold over the request until the next meeting, and to ascertain in the meantime whether the Council oould legally assist. Cr. Yarr's action in authorising the engineer to supply pipes for a crossing at the entrance to tie jground was approved.

The secretary of the' North Canterbury Hospital Board! wrote stating that arrangements tore being muds for representatives of Canterbury local bodies to pay a visit, of inspection to the various institutions under the Board's control on December 17th, and invited Springs County to send two representatives Crs. Williams and Wateonwere appointed to attend the inspection on behalf of the Council.

The manager of Messrs Evana and Ox's property, Greenpark, wrote asking the Council to clean a drain leading to the lake from Hudson's road.
