"SPOILING IT."
ANNIVERSARY PROCESSION.
HEATHCOTE COUNCILLORS' OPINIONS.
"When an invitation for members ho participate in the Jubilee Celebrationis on December 12th was read from the Anniversary Day Committee at last night's meeting of the Hcathcoto County Council, the councillors had something to say. "It is very nice to see tlu> old colonist, the fire brigade, and the bullock waggon in the procession, but a long train of motors filled with ordinary individuals is, in my opinion, flat and unprofitable,"' said Ci\ C. Flavcll (the chairman*. "I'm only speaking from the spectators' point ol view, and I fee! sure that it isn't interesting to watch persons in rnotor-cars. Personally I think it simply spoils a procession." "The 'people see and hear enough of local bodies" without-gazing on members in motor-cars," Cr. W\ W. Scarff said. It was his opinion, aail Cr. W. Kerr, that long strings of motor-cars containing local body members unnecessarily lengthened the procession. Besides that, he added, they only wearied the spectators. Remarks on similar lines were made by other councillors. Some said that if the other local bodies took part in the procession then the Heathcote County • Council would have to fall into line.
Eventually it was agreed that the matter of the Council's representation in the procession be left with the chairman.
