MATCH RACES ARRANGED, A motor-paced match race has been arranged between M. Fitzgerald, of Australia,and W. Mackie-, of Christch'Urch. The race will, take place on Wednesday evening at, the English Park Stadium, over a distance of five miles. Fitzgerald has gained, fame in thisetyle of racing in Melbourne, and is a successful exponent of the art of following 1 the rollers. Mackie is a Christchurch lad who has been prominent as a, rider on the road and track, and is now anxious to try conclusions with Fitzgerald behind the . motors. The riders will start alongside one another, and the race will provide a - number of thrills. In order to settle any dispute as to which rider is the more capable, the Stadium management has decided' again to match Cyril Sowden and M. Fitzgerald 071 Wednesday night. Fitzgerald claims that if Sowden had not gono through on the inside of the pacemaker in the deciding distance he would not have won. ' The race 'to «be held on Wednesday will be an unpaced lia'lf-mile, the riders to start on opposite sidles' of the track. J. Fitzgerald, who has recently arrived from Melbourne, has been signed up to race agaiDst- the winner of the Wells-l-jowdeii match on December sth. The race will be over three distances.
