MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE.
ALLEGED NEGLIGENT DRIVING. (press association tixegbam.) ■ NELSON, November 2&. In the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr Justice MacOregor, the hearing commenced against Leonard William. Field on the alternate counts of manslaughter, by <*using the death of Lynda Effio Hunter, and of causing death by negligently driving. Tho facts of the case are that, early on the morning of September 27 th'last, a- number ot people, after attending the bachelors' ball at Nelson, were proceeding in cars to Richmond to a supper - party. Accused's car, in which deceased was ono of the passengers, while attempting to pass another car driven by Dr. Boag, going in the same' direction, crashed into an cleotric light pole at the street intersection at. tho foot of College Hill, Miss Hunter receiving injuries from which she subsequently died. The Court ros© after tha tase for the Crown had finished.
