SPORTING.

TURF GOSSIP. Acceptances for tho Methven Racing Club's Annual 'Meeting are duo on Monday. The, Spring Meetings of the Feilding and Takapuna Jockey Clubs will be held on Saturday and Monday ne\t. Tho thrco-year-old gelding Panmer, by Panmure or Joculator from Cormorant, has been taken up by J. B. Pearson at Riccarton. Paumor raced three times unsuccessfully last season, but many come good with time. His dam was a si3ter to Nylancfand Vasa, and a half-sister to Boanerges, Pas Scul, Pariform, and others. Tc Kanawu, a three-year-old "by Nassau from Tinoreka, who was to have represented the Waikato owner-trainer R. Hannon in the Takapuna Plate, dropped dead last week. His owner, however, still has two very useful Jiorses engaged iif Ripon Abbey and King's Guard. Tho useful Lucullus gelding Lucius has been sent to Waikanae to be spelled during the summer months. He has done a good deal of racing, and being partial to soft tracks, tho policy of putting him by for a time seems a sound one. I?. Mc.Tavish has been engaged to rido Polliam, Flying Juliet, and Ring Potoa at Takapuna. Ho will also have the mount on Surveyor should that horse compete at tho meeting. Subdivision (writes "Whalebone") has grown into a big two-year-old, and he is the replica of Surveyor both in colour and to a largo extent in marking. Owing to wrenching a shoulder when racing,' be had to bo eased in his work, but he is now all right again. It is interesting to note that his dam 7 Juanna, is by Achilles—Shepherdess, and is therefore, a half-sister to Nithsevo, the grand-dam of Windbag. On breeding, Subdivision should win races. ■ In connexion with the South Canterbury Jockey Club's Spring Meeting to-day and on Saturday, a special train will leave Christcjiurch each day at 7.55 a.m., arriving at tho courso at 11.19 a.m. On the return journey, specials will leave Timaru at 6.36 p.m. and arc sue .back in Christchurch at 10.13 p.m. The field for the Teschemaker Handicap will be reduced by the withdrawal of Deucalion and Rivalry, but it will, still be of two dividend dimensions. "Winkio'p Best is a warm favourite. aqd though on recent racing and track form he appears to have excellent pr-ospects tho presence of Foot> fall, Chickwheat,. and Happy Days amongst others "frill be sufficient to ensure a highly interesting Tace.

Bonniark and Blazes will be well backed in the Otaio Hurdles. This pair have recent f6rm to commend/ them and if they are deprived of the dividends- Frisco - Mail and' Projector are the most likely of their opponents to upset them, Waikaia seems ; to be staying on bettor in his work recently and he, will be a hard horse for Serotina and Cornstalk to beat in the Spring Stakes. Roval Despatch has also been working nicely and should hive some influence in the decision of the race. . _ i

j Celerity II: is weighted in the Tycho Hack Handicap, but even at 8 4 tliojßflgligh fillv might be-a. trifle too close ~tp the . tnree above her in tho list. to_ be considered a more than average speculation. Below her, too, in tlje ijandicips is the Paper Money geJdingCorn, Money, who snows a lot of speed, and may bo a better horse now/than ■when he raced at the meeting at- Riccarton earlier this month. Thfe Presjdent's Welter Js one of the most open races on. the card. Monoxide ptey 6© C. Gieseler's on3y representative, and 1 with useful horses such as 'Starmist, Sartist, His Majesty, Retrospect, and Ferino opposing her, the 'letting will take a wide range. Starmist. and Feriio have been working wolV.and tfiay bo the hardest Monoxidohas to heat,; Phila^deirer; shoyed'eome improvement in hw reoent races at Riccarton, and' if. 'the 'Maiden Plate at prominently. Tho quick ,bpis,i&ip the; 'straight may 5 not sint'hfcii and Micfr as G^iy; Queen, QleftHead ini ght .trouble perhaps right to i»eo«pt,' a, filly by Paper Money" from' Satisfaction, made a good impression at the Sunedin Spring Meeting when nothing like ready to itaoe, and-she will probably carry a lot: of eoutfiern money if started-

Nothing from thetop-weigbt Orchid down to EatonßeJia on the minimum can bo written out of th© Hying Handicap. Possibly Orchid and Miss Minerva will carry of the investments, but tneseT two good sprinters will havo. to do tbejr ,very best to head off Corn Bigs and Baton Bells at tho weights.

Miss Winkio 'with two wins in as many starts appears to have an excellent chance of continning the sequence with 8 8 up in the Kerrvtown Hack Welter, but at only 31b above her is Cornflower, tvho ran a sterling race at Winton last week, when .she beat the favourite Tommy, Dodd in the open sprint event. Cprriflower is erratic at the barrier, but should she ro away correctly she should make matters particularly trying for Hiss inkio. Golrlstep and Windshield are two others certain of solid support. TROTTING NOTES. Nominations for the Wcslporl T.C.'s Midsummer Meeting dose io-Jay at 8 p.m. Acceptances for the Forbury Park T.C.'s •Spring Meeting close to-morrow at 5 p.m. The Auckland T.C. will take nominations for its Summer Meeting, at o p.m. to-morrow and first forfeits for the 1936 and final payments for the Great Northern Derby are due at the same time. The outside of the course proper at New Brighton will be open for linrses engaged at tho Club's Summer Meeting on Saturday nest, and on Tuesday December Bth. The three-year-old filly by. Nelson Bingen from Soda has been name:l Ados. On the concluding dav of the New Brighton T.C.'s Summer Meeting, Onyx will attempt to lower tho mile and a half record of 3in 17s established by Logan Chief at Wellington last April. It is reported that the proposed visit of Peter. Manning to Now Zealand i- 5 not likelv to eventuate owing to suitable transport arrangements not being available. J. Messervey was a visitor at Actlington yesterday with Tcncriffe, Thixendale, and King Dillon, and gave them useful exercise. Mayan's Quest is training on the right way and will be included in P. Riddle's team to race at Forburv Park.

Mr Coatcs, caretaker of the Canterbury Park T.C/s ground at Addington, is making a £ood recovery from his recent illness, but it will be some time yet before lie is able to resume his duties.

The Australinn-brcd p&cer Realm is in first-class fettle and is pacing in bis best style. It is reported that his mission is the Frce-for-All at Forbury Park next month.

OWNERS AND BREEDERS ANNUAL MEETING. The annual mooting; of the Canterbury Owners' r.nd Breeders' Association was held last evening. Mr Claude Piper presiding over a good attendance of members. The annual report stated that at the commencement of the financial year there was a credit balance of it 19s 2d. After all accounts had been paid for the past year the committee had finished up with a credit balance of i'JH rfs s d, which was a record for the Association. Last year subscriptions and donations received amounted to £-01 13s (id. This year the amount received totalled A'2o4 10s lid, an increase in membership l'ees of i'2 17s. The membership of the Association had been augmented by ten now members, but -0 members had been taken off the roll as unftnancial. The annual reunion was held during National Meek, and although it' resulted in' a loss financially, it was, in every other respect, a great success. The rooms v/ere being well patronised, and tho engagement of Mr R. Campbell us steward had proved a step in the right direction.. The committee desired to thank the donors of the prizes to the leading rcinsmen and horsemc-n, and the ribbon to the owner of the leading sire. The Association still had charge ot the trainers' quarters and stand at Addington, On the concluding day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's Meeting the Prime Minister. the Hon. J. G. Coatcs, paid a flying visit to the quarters and expressed himself highly pleased with what he saw. During the past year the sport of trotting had made further advancement. The racing had been clean and a number of excellent performances had been registered. .In the pacing division Logan Chief, Great Bingen, Acron, Onyx, Great Hope, Ahuriri, Away, Minton Derby, imprint, Locanda Mac, Jack Potts, Glenelg, Nantwich, and Native Chief had represented tho highest class of pacer, and Kscapade, Napland, Nikora, and Kawhaki amongst the trotters had shown that the free-legged brigade were improving at a great rate. With the majority of the leading clubs providing 4 'frtje-for-aU" racing, thov, were catering in the best possible manner for the to"p class horses, and the encouragement given was bound to have a beneficial eftect ou the sport. Members regretted that Mr P. Selig had found it necessary during, the year to declipc nomination on the New Zealand Trotting Association. During his long service in tho interests of the sport Mr Belig had done a wonderful amount of work, and the benefits of his wise administration were being appreciated to-day. During the past year the trotting owners and trainers had been particularly well catered for in the matter of train arrangements to and from the various meetings. The railway authorities had always shown a willingness to meet the Association in matters pertaining to improvements in the transportation of stock. For the first time a special horse tram was run from Wellington to Auckland, and in the South Island special trains were run to each of tbc Park, West Coast, Timaru, Oamaru. and Ashburton Meetings. Mr W. Hayward i.»id that stewards were entirely unbiassed. They were there to do their duty for the benefit of the sport. He appealed for the confidence and co-operation of the owners and breeders, and complimented the treasurer, Mr F. Higginbottom, on his work during the year.
