AUCTIONS. H. MATSON AND 00. H MATSON and CO. report on Adding- • ton market As follows: FAT CATTLK. Tho entry comprised 660 bead, of which H. Mataon and Co.'s entry was ISO. There were several consignments of "North Island cattle, also a good many plain unfinished steers, »ows, and heiiert of all descriptions were weil represented. Prime steer beef in our opinion was averaging 475; there were one or two exceptional consignments sold at higher rates. Big, heavy, plain steer beef was selling from 85s 9d to 40s; cow beef was selling at about 30s to -10s, in a few cases higher; heifer beet was selling anywhere from about 35s Generally speaking the market was 5s a hundred cheaper than the previous week, and there was no doubt that in particular alleyways the sale seemed to be brighter and ' more animated than in others. We have nothing to complain about our sale, as the writer checked our various lots, both as regards weights and the average prices and found thera to be quite compatible with tho best average rates of the day. On a per head basis we quote as follows: STEERSExtra heavy £2l to £'23 17s 6d. Prime £IG 10s to £lB 15s. Medium £l3' to £ls 5sLipht £lO 10s to £l4. HEIFERS— „ . Extra heavy £l3 to £ls <0 ". This included several lots of x>rizo-takers from the recent shows. The opening basis of values was about Is below tho previous week, and gradually receded from 2s to 3b below the previous week's prices, and we assess the P* lo ® ' lorn 9>d to 10Jd per lb. The bulk of tho lambs were quite up to freezing weights and in several cases over. Our offieer states that some of the lambs would kill 45 to 48 butchrrs' weiphts. Bidding was anything but brink, anrl pales were hard to made towards tho conclusion of the sale. We quote as follows: Extra r>rime lambs up to 38s Id. Medium prime lambs 3'2s 6d to 365.
