A stop-work meeting of tho Sydner branch of the Seamen's Union, attended by 1600 seamen, decided not to take any drastic action at present in regard to showing disapproval of the deportation of "Walsh and Johnson. Attempt* by tho extreme element, led by (. asey and Lyons, to have all ships declared black in the event of deportation, were defeated by the moderates. A motion that delegates be appointed to wait upon the Trades and Labour Council with a view to ascertaininc what assistance would bo forthcoming in the event of a strike being declared was carried almost unanimously. At a conference of strikers and ownens, the latter submitted certain terms for settlement of tho dispute, bnt a general meeting of Gcamen. rejected them. A meeting of \he Victorian branch of tho Seamen's Union decided that, in tho event of the High Court deciding against Walsh and Johnson, a special stop-work meeting will be called to consider what taction shdnld be taken. TRADES HALL COUNCIL. NO DECISION ON DEPORTATION CASE, MELBOURNE, November SM. A number of striken from the steam* er Northumberland were sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment on charges of disobeying lawful commands. The Trades Hall Council Disputes Committee and a conference of maritime and transport unions discussed tho methods to be taken to prevent tie deportation of Walsh and Johnson. and adjourned till Thursday without reaching a decision. The crew of the steamer KarooU, at Perth, again refused to take the vessel to sea, and the steamer is tied up indefinitely.
