PERSONAL. VSTECIAL TO "THTK PRUSS."} GREYMOUTH. November 24. The Mayor (Mr W, H. Parfitt) received the following telegram from the Governor-General's private secretary to-day: —"Their Excellencies the Gov-ernor-General and Lady Fcrgusson propose to visit Grcymonth on Thursday, December 17th, arriving by the Tutanckai and remaining' all day. Will you kindly submit a copy of the proposed programme of arrangements for the visit?" Mr A. C. Brethcrton. inspector. Public Trust Office, left this morning for Christchurch, en route to Invercargill. Mrs H. Dowling, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs B. Fass (Karoro), left by this morning's express on her return to Southport. Queensland. Miss K. James, of Karoro, left this morning for Dunedin. Outward passengers by this morning's express included: —Mrs R. T. Raper, Miss M. Clifton, Messrs F. P. Callan, T. M. Moore, C. Schroeder, R. C. Wilkinson, and Sands.

Mr T. Keogh arrived from Dunedin to-day on a visit to his brother, Mr E. J. Keogh. Mr Egcrton Tidinarsh, professor and examiner of the Royal Academy of Music, London, left for Christchurch to-day. The death took place at Wellington to-day, after a brief illness, of Mr Duncan McLean. Deceased, who was about fifty-three years of age, was a native of Greymouth, being a son of the late Mr and Mrs Duncan McLean, two of Greymouth's earliest pioneers, and a nephew of the late Hon. James Kerr. He leaves two brothers—Messrs P. J. and O. McLean (Greymouth)—and one sister—Mrs T. Learmont (Waimunga). The Rt. Rev. Dr. Brodie, Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, was an inward passenger to Hokitika by this evening's express. Mr K R. Ward,-Under-Secretary for Justice, who is paying an official'visit to the West Coast, will proceed to Hokitika to-morrow, and return to Christchurch by Thursday's express. ' Miss Kathleen Martin returned from Christchurch this afternoon. Mrs J. Grimmond, of Ross, was an inward passenger by to-day's express. Inward passengers bv to.-dav's express included Mesdanies J. ' Willis, Wylie, Messrs H. H. Smith, P. J. McLean, A. W. Yarrall, and Creswell. The Rev. B. Hutson, who has been relieving the Rev. P. B. Eraser at ■ St.' Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Hokitika, for the past year, was entertained by the congregation last evening. Mr and Mrs Eraser aro expected to return | to Hokitika in about a fortnight's time. I Mr P. J. McLean leaves for Welling- , ton to-morrow morning. J Mr Black, of tho railway staff, and Mrs Black will leave for Christchurch 1 to-morrow morning, on account of a I family bereavement. Kunanga Tragedy.. The body of William Ferguson was found hanging from a rafter in the washhousc of his residence at Runanga at 9 o'clock this morning. The body, •when discovered by John O'Connell, was still warm. Dr. Meade was almost immediately in attendance, and tried artificial respiration for half an hour without success. Deceased, who figured as the' defendant in an affiliation case at Greymouth yesterday, caused a-stir in the courtroom when an order was made against him by crying out, "Good-bye. everybody," as he made his exit from the Court. Ferguson was a native of England, fifty years of age', and was 'employed as a deputy at the Liverpool mine until last week, when he collapsed through ill-health. He had been gassed in France during the war, and was suffering from miners' phthisis, for which he had been receiving medical treatment. An inquest will be held at the Greymouth Courthouse to-morrow. Escape from Death. Advice was received from Westport by Inspector W. Eccles to-day that Arthur Craddock, who disappeared! while crossing the Fox River on horseback, had reached his destination safely. Craddock is employed as cook at a survey camp at Tiromoana, four miles up the Fox River and about twelve miles bey&nd Barrvtown. Ho was returning with stores'to the camp arid at on© of the crossings in the flooded river horse and 'rider, were swept away in the current.' The horse was later discovered about a .mile below the ford. Craddock. managed to scramble on to a rock where he spent a miserable night, being wet, cold, and hungry. On Sundav morning, he regained the bauk and headed for camp on foot, arriving there exhausted, in tho evening. Owing to the discovery of Craddock's horse and some parcels strewn on the beach, there was ample ground for the belief that ho had perished and a. police search for his body had begun. •'
