He reported that the Emergency Committee had agreed to contribute another £25 for' the Industrial Court, bringing the Association's commitments to £125 for the Secondary Industries Court and £SO for the Canterbury Court. The chairman said «i sum of £4OO had! been aimed at for the purpose of propaganda. The Auckland Association had refused to make any grant. It was the opinion of the speaker that Mr Allen, president of the Auckland: Association, was rather ashamed of his province when he saw the excellent displays of the other provinces. The Emergency Committee's action in voting an additional £25 was endorsed. Buty on Canned Fruits. A letter was received from the Wellington Industrial Association with regard to the endeavours of a Tasmaraian company to have the duty on canned' fruits removed. The chairman said the Canterbury Association's Wellington representative had been instructed to oppose any action in the matter at present. Apparently an outside firm was attempting to creep in. The matter was referred to the Vigilance Committee. Chamber of Commerce. The chairman referred to the failure'of the Chamber of Commerce to appoint Mr Jenkin, the Association's representative on its executive, to the Manufacturers' Committee, ilr CHmie, secretary of the Chamber, had' staled that the committees which" had been, published wens those functioning last year, and; Mr Jenkin would be given a scat on the Manufacturers' Committee. However-, although ihis undertaking had been given Iwo months ago, to date nothing had br.cn done. This wa3 a slight' upon the Association, and he felt that" if its representative was r.o_good' on the committee -they should consider .withdrawing their affiliation. The. secretary was instructed to write drawing attention to the matter. The chaii'man suggested that tho Association give a lead to the other three centres by setting up a committee to go into the matter of the tariff, and collect evidence for presentation to the Government next year." Tho matter should be given consideration at the licit meeting. Change of Name. ° At th« 1023 annual conference at Auckland it had been decided to recommend that the name of the Industrial Corporation be changed to the Manufacturers' Federation, and that local Industrial Associations should be- koown as Manufacturers' Associations. The proposal received further consideration ar, the next conference, which was held at WeJhnffion, but it had been ascertained that legislation was necessarv for a change of name. Ho suggested that- the matter receive further consideration at the next conference of presidents, when uniformity could ,be arrived at, and & recommendation sent out to all the Associations. This course was approved.
