RIFLE SHOOTING.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. A general meeting of the Canterbury Rifle Association was held on Saturday evening, Major J. P. Oalces presiding over a large attendance of delegates. It was decided that owing to the South Island championships taking place on January Ist and 2nd, at Dunedin, to hold t.he Canterbury championships on the Saturday preceding the National Meeting at Trentham, which commences on Tuesday, March J6th. It was agreed to approach the Officer Commanding the Southern Command, with a view to procuring the range on that date at Redcliffs. In the event of the date being' unsuitable, the meeting will take place at Easter. The provincial match, Canterbury v. Auckland was arranged to take place at Kaiapoi on January 16th, the teams to be 20 men aside, with 7 shots and an optional sighter at IJOO, 500; and 600 .yards. A selection committee was set up consisting of Messrs W. S. Wharton, P, .Hill, and A. C. Hullett. A comprehensive programme for the championship was drawn up, consisting of a snapshooting service match, and matches at 300 yards,. 5,00 yards, and 600. yards, there being two at the latter distance, making n total of {out. A prize list of over £IOO was arranged, allocated as tol!o\vs:—Service Match, £7;Cantorbury Match, £2O; South Canterbury Match, £2or Horth Canterbury Match, £2O; .the Peninsula Match, i'2oj grand £ll lis; tyro aggregate, £5. The teams .championship will. be. hold on an aggregate over thefirst three matches. The usual trophies and medals have yet to be allocated. CHRISTCHURCH V. RAILWAY.
