Acceptances for the Auckland Racing Club's spring Meeting and final payments for the Great Northern Guineas and Welcome Stakes arc due at 5 p.m. to-day. A big contingent of North Island horses arrived at Riccarton yesterday to take part at the Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan Meeting, which commences to-annrrow week. Among.it them were Rapine, Joy King, Mimetic, Star Stranger, My Hobby, Decoy Bird, Inferno, Shining Armour, Mandanc. Limited, Polonaise, Vertigern, Zouave, Agitato, Licinhis, Mireusonta. Clarinda, Clandhii, >Sunart, Tanadccs, Tho Tank, Ilouex, and Kalakaua. Musketoon, David Garrick, and Tiff were scratched for all engagements at the C'.J.C. Metropolitan. 'Meeting at p.m. yesteriday, and Benmure and Pangolin at 9 a.m. Tho Victoria Racing Club's Spring Meeting will bo commenced at l''lemington to-morrow, when tho Maribyrnong Plate, Melbourne Stakes, V.B.C. Derby, and Cantala Stakes will be decided. The Melbourne Cup will be run on Tuesday. J. A. White's team comprising All Style, Jolly Glad, and Peal Glad, which arrived from Wellington on Wednesday, were out doing steady exercise at Jliccarton yesterday. All Stylo was kicked on the near knee while at tho post at Trentham on Monday and may not bo a starter until the second and third days at Jliccarton. Bon Skirl is a recent addition to R. Emerson's team at Riccarton. A three-year-old colt by Tractor from Marsa was due at tho same establishment from the south iast night. Ho is to bo gelded before going into work.

Kilfane is reported to have changed hands this week and it is quite possible that ho will forfeit his engagements at tho New Zealand Oup Meeting.

Commendation was sent back to Awapuni on Monday. He is to come south to Riccarton early next week. •J. Proctor is setting up as a public trainer (says the "Evening Post")', and amongst his charges are First Line and Goldpiece, two horses he has ridden regularly in their engagements. First Lino cut himself with some wire recently, and is having an enforced spell. It is understood that Sleet is also to he trained by Proctor in future. Tho following foalings are reported from Mr J. It'. Buchanan's Kinloch stud: Waterspray a colt, Temerin a filjy, Rainbow Gold, a colt, Bonaria a filiy, Disdainful a colt,- Tumult a colt, Lovelorn a colt, Lady Kinloch a colt, War Lady a colt, and Gymeno a filly, all to Paladin; Kildee a colt to Martian, Cliarmilla a filly to Clarenceux, and Torquato a filly to Night Raid.

B. H. Morris was associated with Mr C. Elgar's horses at the recent meeting at Trontham, when the weights suited, and it is now announced that he will do the riding for tho stable during the current season.

Polyphonies, who .won the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown in 1924, and 1925, is to go to tho stud kt his owner's property Maiden Erlegh. Two successful stallions of past years, Orme and Buchan equalled Polyphontes's performance in the race at Sandown. After tho V.A.T.C. settling last week, Windbag was at a very short price for the Melbourne Cup, having shortened sinco the previous week. Manfred was next in demand, and Pifliewinkie tho only other quoted below double figures. Tho following are at the head of quotation : Windbag, Manfred, Pilliewinkie, Spearfelt, Stand By.

The New Zealand trainers 6. New and Hr Neagle havo been held up in Sydney through the waterside trouble, but expect to get away when tho Ulimaroa. sails. v

■Gloaming's Sister mado her debut in tho Two-Year-Old Handicap at Randwick on October 17th. She impressed the critics with her appearance, for she shows • much more quality than her c-hampion brother did when he was a juvenile. An exchange says that Booth had evidently not been doing too much with the daughter of Tho - Welkin — Light, for she carried a superfluity of flesh, and looked anything hut finelytrained. In the race Gloaming's Sister showed! prominently for a couple of furlongs, and then lack of condition enforced her retreat.

A Sydney writer mentioning Pillieuinkio's •performances against Windbag at Itandlwick says: "Some horses •will stand anything, and will come up smiling for their gruel in race after race, oven though they aro beaten every time. But the average horse would soon turn eour if asked to race day after day against fin opponent that had it 011 him at the finish, no matter how hard he struggled. Very few trainers would allow a horso to even work with such as Windbag, let alone taking him on in race after race, and it would be hard to name any other horso in training that would have any chance of coming out with his courage unimpaired after three such battles as Pilliewinkie had against Windbag. If Pilliewmkio wins th& Melbourne Cup, he will provo himself the gamest of the game."

It was a troublesome business to get Manna homo from Doncaster (says Audax in "Horse and Hound"), the colt having gone very lame as the result of having badly strained his off fore fetlock and knee either in the race for the St. Legcr, or else when being pulled up after the canter. I expect, howover, it " occurred during' the contest. although Donoghue, his rider, is uncertain. Whether Manua would have beaten Solario had nothing happened can never bo proved, as his career is ended, and ho begins next season with fifteen mares at Mr Chir'es Howard's Manor Stud, Coombo Park, near Pangbourno. Of course, Fred Darling will always think Manna would have won tho St. Leger, owing to his great homo superiority *to tho third, Warden of tho Marches; but Solario won extremely easily, and gallops on tho training ground often fail to work out satisfactorily upon the racecourse.

TROTTING NOTES.

Acceptances for the Metropolitan T.G.'s Spring Meeting close on Tuesday, at noon.

Training operations at Addington yesterday ire re conducted under favourable conditions. The trade was in yood order and there was a large number of spectators. Realrr., driven by T. Pollock, was allotted a strong mile, and pullied up sound. His trainer, W. J. Tomkinsoii. is not over-confident about Realm groi iijr to tlie pest in the Cupi, but ..ixrukl he continue to train <m lie will be a starter in tlie i'ree-uor-AII on the second day of the coming meeting.

Nelson Derby was allotted two miles, and paced in his usual free style. Kissing Cup took 4rn 4Cis cover two miles, but at no stage of the journey was .she extended. J. Messervey was a visitor from New Brighton with Onyx and Tencriffe. Both were worked over a journey. but were not sent against the watch.

Delavan's Quest CP. Holmes, jun.) led •Slic-ik (P. Piddle) over two miles in 4m yi a lirce performance. Both horses are very we'll at present.

XV. J. Tomkinson drove Mjnton Derby two miles at a fast gait. It was tho best display of the morning. Locanda Mac was given slow exercise over a journey. He moved short in front at the start and was no better at the end of his task. B. 13. Berry rode Darknite a fast rniie, and. judging by his effort, the son of IMljbonite is almost at the top of his form. Iloyal Step, in the same stabie, paced a mile, but did not impress the critics.

An interesting work-out- was accomplished by Bc]l Harold and. the trotters Keun Jclni, Atidominion, Is'apland, and Happy Kosa. The five kept company over two miles, and registered 4m 50m for the distance. Audo Bell started with them, but broke in tho firs* furlong, and at the end of a circuit was putted up. He then worked bv himself, and showed to advantage while trotting twelve furlongs. Argus (harness)- paced a mile in 2m lfls, while Henry 'l'racey (saddle) took 5s longer to cover the same distance. Prince Lyons and the 3-year-old Wakataua were companions in a strongly run mile and ;i half, and finished on terms. The latter is on the improve, and' gave a better display than at Geraldine last month.

Mangoutu made no mistakes wh'le trotting a eoupde of miles. Young Blake was allotted a similar task, but spoiled what would haare been a pleasing display by breaking. Tho appearance of Logan Lou (F. Bennett), Great Bingen (D. Withers), and Acron (A. Butterfield) on the course created a lot of interest. The trio started at the two mile post, and raced in that order named over .sixteen furlongs. Acron covered! more ground than the other two, and there was little Ijetween thorn at the finish. The journey took 4m 37 2-ss, the last half mile being run in lm 6 1-os. Both Great Bingen and Acron put plenty of dash into, their effort, and worked to the satisfaction of their trainer. After the work out Logan Lou developed lameness, which is most unfortunate for her connexions, as her effort was 4 very pleasing on©. 1). McKendry rode High Jinks a mile in 2m 19s. The Logan Pointer gelding was not extended, and had something left in reserve. Tho trotters Queen Ida and Sunny Jim worked separately over t.wo miles', and registered good time. Escapade and Earl Derby did threequarter exercise*. Peter the First was allotted sprinting exercise in saddle. The Tirriaru Trotting Club lias received good acceptances for its Spring Meeting to-morrow. Amongst the horses engaged are Talaro, Black Adr miral, Talent, Queen's Own, Donside, Irish Whispers, Bruce, Nantwich, Ivy Audubon, Silk Thread, Native Chief, Delville Wood, Burnie, Happy Rosa, Duke Bingen, and Real the Great. A special train will leave Christchurch for Timaru at 7.53 a.m., and arrive in time for the public to witness the first race. It will leavo Timaru at 6.36 p.m. and arrive in Christchurch at 10.13 p.m. Bertha Belle {imp.) dam of Great Bingen, has foaied a filly to Nelson Bingen, and visits Guy Parrish. Coun- | tess Huon has foaled a filly, Reta Rose a' filly, and Toddy Wilkes a colt to Guy Parrish, and visit him again. Miss Spiers (imp.), Marietta, Harold Dillon mare, Helen Bingen, and Lindawood have been mated with Guy Parrish. RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. MONEY ORDER WORKS WELL. There was some interesting work done at Biccarton yesterday morning under pleasant conditions. The inside of the No. 7 grass and the plough tracks were used, both providing good going. Firestick, alone, was stopping at the end of six furlongs on the grass in lm 19,5.

Haze and Nincompoop jumped away at about five and a half furlongs on the plough, and finishing together, ran the last five in lm 4 l-ss. Barn Owl sprinted home the last three furlongs of a,round cn the plough. Centrepiece, with Royal Head the first five and Fresh Breeze the last five, galloped ten furlongs on the grass in 2m 12 l-ss. Tho pace was on in the first portion of the gallop, the first seven furlongs being run nicely in lm 31s. Deucalion, alone, on the grass, bo-wled along freely when doing six furlongs in lm 16 3-os. • Lucinda- and Goldspear, together, did a working gallop over six furlongs on the plough in lm 20 1-os. Clarcina showed dash when running six furlongs on the grass in lm 11 1-os. . Malaga and Windshield were not extended to run six furlongs on the plough in lm 21 2-os.

Money Order, carrying F. C. Porter—a fair weight—sprinted six furlongs brilliantly on tho plough in lm 15 3-ss. This gallop compares, inorc thau favourably with anything done on the grass, for the latter track is considered short of tho actual distances marked. Tho Paper Money three-year-old moved very freely throughout, and though ho might not have been able to do any better, it would have taken a good one to keep with him from end to end of the gallop. Scrip beat the Boniform —Mistime filly over half a mile on the grass from almost a standing start in 51 2-os, the last three furlongs taking 375. Lueinette, picked up by The Polymnian at about the six-furlong post, ran the last mile of a mile and a quarter on the plough in lm 47 2-ss.

Gny Juliet took lm 4 3-5s to cover five "furlongs on the grass. His Majesty did a useful six furlongs on the plough.. Bed Wink was going better than Equerry at the end of a mile cn the grass in lm 45 l-ss.

Count Cavour was not out to make time while running a mile 011 the plough in lm 475.

Waterlow did sis furlongs on the same track in lm. 19 4-ss, and Starmist later repeated the performance. Carpentier and Solfello together, and Ferino alone, were not out on timemaking missions when working nicely over a few l'urlongs on the plough.

Giantkiller beat Kilris over seven furlongs on the plough, tlie last six taking lm 2*2 l-ss.

The Paper Honey—Stardaiiee'r two-year-old filly Paperehase pleased when running half a mile on tlie grass in 50s. after a slow beginning. '

Gk'iitruiit. carryiag F. C. Porter, worked a good five furlongs on the plough in lm 3 2 -."55.

Bonomel and Gay Life galloped togetlmr in a useful task cm the plough. Tift' was pulled up in the middle of a gallop on the' plough, and he was found to have gone wrong again behind. The Martian gelding may be out of work for a considerable tinip.

Footfall was showing the way'to Goldstep at the end of nine furlongs on the plough, the last mile taking lm 4G l-ss. Lava appeared te v be stopping at the end of six furlongs on the plough in lm 20s.

After breakfast, Winkie's Best and Miss Minerva did a working gallop on the plough. Prosperity beat Solferite over the same ground in lm 32 2-ss. Assurance, Kiibox, and Lady Swinton was the order at the end of half a mile on the plough, from almost a standing start, in 525. Over the same ground Sun Up, alone, took 51s.

Jarretiere and Cornstalk were companions, and finished abreast at the end of six furlongs on the plough in lm 17 4-ss. Fresco and Kilbirnie took lm 21s for the same work.

Joycusc sprinted half a mile on the plough in 51 3-53.

Tlie Paper Money colt Paper Boy beat Martis in a pleasing half-mile on the grass, taking 4D 4-ss.
