Painleve has accepted the Prime Ministership 1 in the new Ministry, M. Briand remains Foreign Minister. Following separate meetings during the morning, tUo Cartel comprising the Radical Socialists, Gauc.li Radicals, Republican Socialists, and Socialists, patched up their difference and agreed on. the general terms of a joint policy on the basis of the Cartel's, programmo at last election, mimely, M. Herriot's policy. It is noteworthy, as regards finance, that the Cartel resolved to favour a tax on acquired wealth for the purpose of obtaining necessary funds. The Socialists are acquiring in this compromise a formula which does not specify their panacea, the capital levy. NEW CABINET'S WAR POLICY. (AUSTEAXIAB AKD N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received October 29th, 7.20 p.m.) LONDON, October 28. M. Painleve has been busy all night long choosing the members of his Cabinet. It is considered likely, in view c£ events in Syria and Morocco, that he will retain the War Ministry and seek another Financo Minister. It is believed that General Sarrail's recall will fee among the first acts of the new Cabinet.
