GREY HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. •(SPICUJ, TO "XKE rBBSS.") , GRETSIOUTH', October 20. The month:? meeting of tho Grey Hospital Board was held this croning. Present— Messrs J. "\V. Hannan (chairman), J. P. Irvine, J, Lajjibcrton, E. Ashton, W. H. Parfit.t, W. F. PuJiia, J. Greaney, J. Erislane, aad P. 'Williams. The secretary of tho Grey Valley Farmers' I'oion wrote with' rofercnce to the tvrcs on the Board' 6 ambulance, pointing out that in one instance in which a caso was being conveyed to tho Grey Hospital from Tot ant Flat, no fewer than firo punctures -were experienced, with a result that it took four honr3 for tho patient to reach the hospital. Jn reply to enquiries made by the lioard's inspector, the secretary of tho Farmers' Union wrote further, stating that four punctures occurred ou tho outward journey, and one on the return. The ambuianco left Totara Plat at about 3,45 p.m.,' and arrived at Greymouth about 7 . p.m. The writer Pointed out the necessity of tho Hospital Board having a properly equipped ambulance. The Board's secretary said he had accompanied the ambulance on tho journey complained of, and the'secretary of the Partners' Union's letter was an exaggeration of t.he facts. The journey occupied a, little over two and a half hours. The matter was left in tho hajids of tho secretary. It was'resolxed that Dr. A. B. Pearson be requested to secure a suitable nurse for the clinical laboratory to be established at Greymouth,'with a proviso that- tho nurso stay in tho Board's service for two ye,irs after the completion of her training. The clerk of •works at the Old People's Home reported that the finishing work would bo completed in a few days, and tbr. building would be ready to be taken over in a week's time. The medical superintendent. Dr. .7. F. r. Moore. reported that Mr Allan, tho Technical Inspector of the Public . Health Department, visited t.he hospital and inspected the sanitary. an no* be, verandahs. and sites of the. proposed nurses' home, isolation ward, and tnorgue. Mr Allan recommended the shifting of the site for the nurses' homo about twenty vsrds nearer the present Old People's Home, which would permit the isolation ward to be placed on' the silo of tho present morgue. The application of flic assistant clerk ("Miss K. Greaney) for annual leave «ds left iu the bancs of the secretary.
