A tramway labourer, Charles Brown. a single man. received a fracture to his right leg through being knocked over by a milk-cart at the corner of Ferry road and Wilson's road at 9.30 a.m. yesterday. The Hospital authorities reported last evening that his condition was satisfactory. Alter ]!-i remands. Frederick Emanuel Simmins, carpenter, aged 33, was charged with stealing £36 from employees of the Hutt County Council. It is alleged that Siiiiuiins, who was foreman, offered to cash cheques belonging to the men under him. He cashed the cheques and decamped, leaving the men penniless. Ho pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial.
