AUCTIONS. H. M.ATSON AND CO. MATSON : and CO. REPORT ON ADDINGTON MARKET: STORE SHEEP. Many lines of aged ewes with lambs at foot were yarded. A few pens of wethers and hoggets were sprinkled throughout the entry, but fully SO per cent, of the Bheep were ewes and lambs. We consider that hoggets sold very well indeed. Only a few pens of wethers were in, and the prices were not regular. Some good sales were made at prices in excess of the market value, and tliere were also in our opinion some cheap sheep selling. Shorn sheep met with a ready sale. A small line of 2-tooth wethers realised 22s 10d„ and another line changed hands at 24s 6d. There is no doubt about it, ewes and lambs sold very well indeed, but sales were hard to make. It is hard for outsiders to understand us making this statement, bnt in practically every pen there were only two buyers competing against one another. We might add that these buyers were particularly cautious, nevertheless, the prices that they eventually purchased at must be considered good. Practically all the ewes were giuumies, with the exception of two or three lines, aud there was nothing of outstanding quality as regards the lambs penned. The top price was for a line we sold, uhich realised 26s l.ld. The ewes had teeth, and the lambs were healthy and Southdown cross. FAT SHEEP. iparatively small yarding, which included a fair proportion of shorn sheep, the quality generally- was very fair, hut tho rule was irregular.' It opened firm at last week's prices, but, as the Kale progressed showed an easing tendency, especially for shorn sheep. Towards the end, however, the sale brightened up cpnsUlerably, and closed firm, at'opeuing rates. We would quoto shorn sheep on an average slightly easier than last week, .but, woolly sheep showed, little, if any, difference. Had it not been for a lino of about 130 steers which came forward as advertised there would have been a poor entry recorded in thiß department. A number of the well-known graziers were purchasing freely, and the prices were, without a doubt, the best ihat have been recorded this seaEon. Even lines of old cows sold dearer to-day than wo have seen for many a long day. Most of the cattle fell to the bide of Banks Peninsula graziers, who, at the present time have a great flush of feed. Four particularly good steers were sold at £l2 10s, four-year-olds, and nice colours.
