A special meeting of shareholders of the Kaiapoi Woollen Co. was held yesterday to Confirm the resolution passed at a previous meeting reducing tho share capitai of the company by three shillings a ehare. The chairman of directors, Mr J. H. Blackwell, presided, and only a small number of shareholders were present. After the "minutes of the previous meeting had been confirmed, the chairman formalfy moved that the resolution authorising the reduction of ehare capital be confirmed. On being put to the meeting the motion was carried, only Messrs J. Tait and C. E. Armstrong, who had opposed it at the previous meeting, voting against it. WEST COAST SLATE. \ A sample of slate from, what is stated to be the only known deposit of that rock in the Dominion is on view at the Tourist Bureau in Chrifltchurch. The aamplo ra ( from a deposit at Blackwater, Buller Gorge, Westport, opposite Messrs Newman's stables, and the deposit covers an area of about 150 acres. It is out by the centre line of tho Westport-Inflngahna railway. The main "body of the deposit is contained in the conioal hill, some 600 feet high, and it is'stated that the slate can be easily quarried and handled at email expense by gravitation. The deposit :'s situated about sixteen miles from Westport and some five or .six miles from the present railhead of the Weetport-Inangahua junction railway. There is, it is stated, some possibility of the deposit being worked, several Christchurch people having shown interest in the matter. BROADFIELD SHEARING SHED COMPANY.

The annual meeting of shareholders of the Broadneld Shearing Shed. Co., Ltd., wse held on Saturday evening, Mr P. F. Kyan, chairman of directors, presiding over a small attendance. . The annual report disclosed a considerable improvement in the business transacted during the year, more especially in connexion -with dipping and crutcfcjng. Eleetrio powex had been installed in the ehed. Arrangements were made to plant a belt of trees along the grounds for shelter. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The chairman said that the yards had been recently overhauled tuki everything was in readiness for the opening of the coming' season. Yote3 of thanks were passed to the outgoing directors and the chairman. The following were elected director* for the coming season: —Messrs M. P. F. Byaa (chairman, re-elected), F. Morrish, F. W. Carpenter, H. Paterson, T. Cunneen, T. Henly. E. Cunneen, C. Ryan. Mr F. H. La Batt was re-elected auditor. ASHBURTON CATTLE SALE. There was an entry of about 300 head at the New Zealand Fanners' Co-op. annual cattle fair held at the Tinwald yards yesterday. There was bat a smalt attendance, and buyers were few in number. Rain fell throughout the day. There were about 25 head of fat cattle and 20 fairly good, dairy cows, the balance being stores of various ages and quality. Fat and forward cattle realised from £4 to £7 12s 6d, springing cows £4 to £7, stores £3 to £6 ss, yearlings £1 16s to £2 2s.
