The annual grant of £29 to the funds of the Progress League was made.

A vary unsatisfactory reply having been received from the Railway Engineer on the day he left the service regarding the second crossing at Mandeville, it was decided to reopen the matter with the new Engineer and press for an answer.

No word having been heard from 'the auditor, it was decided to write to the Auditor-General suggesting that comities whose audits only took a few days should be dealt with first in order, leaving the larger accounts till later in the year.

The clerk > was instructed to - send final notices to those persons in the county who had not taken out motor drivers' licenses. It was decided to extend the electric reticulation of the county along Jackson's road to Mr Hansen's on receipt of a guarantee of regular income from him, and along the/Ohoka road to Mr McNab.

Several cases of scarlet fever at West Eyreton and HorreMlle having been reported by the Council's Sanitary Inspector, it was decided to instruct him to make a house to house canvass wherever, children attended the school until ■ the supposed "carrier" tad been located. Two fords on the dray track along Burgess Creek having been badly washed out, it was decided to close the road for traffic.

The engineer having reported that an artificial obstruction had been placed across a natural watercourse wheel had caused a large flow' of. water along the Oxiord-Ohoka road, much to the detriment of the it was decided to order immedate removal, and to ask the culprit to show cause why action should, not be taken against him for damage to the road. Infractions were given to take legal action against the few defaulters in regard to last' year's rates. The ewrineer reported that floods had been so prevalent in the Eyre River that an attempt had been made to make permanent repairs, that shingling on tEe North road was proceeding very slowly, owing V> the constant rains and freshes in the Waimakariri, that a trial parcel of Birdling's Flat shingle had. been spread as a test, and that besides. various minor repairs the South Eyre road had been put in order. A letter was received from Mr F. W. Furkert, Chief Engineer, Publio Works Department, that when the regulations for the control of motor lorries were drafted by him it was intended to exempt all traction engine traffic and to leave that branch of heavy traffic under the control of tho local authorities. In the regulations traction engines themselves were specially exempted, but by an oversight their trailers were not mentioned, and the trailers referred to were those often drawn behind motor lorries. As actually worded the regulations unfortunately had to be interpreted so as to make traction engine trailers liable for a hear/ license fee, but as that was not the Minister's intention fresh regulations were to be gazetted, clearing up several anomaaes and specially exempting all traction engine traffic from the provisions of the motor lorry regulations, and leaving it entirely in the control of the'local authorities as heretofore.
