OBITUARY.
CANADIAN NOVELIST'S WIFE. (by cable— pbess association—copteight.) (bxctzb's telegrams.) (Beeeived September 15th, 12.25 a.m.) NEW YORK, September 14. Lady Amy Parker, aged 60 years, wife of the Canadian novelist and statesman, Sir Gilbert Parker, died on Saturday. She had been ill a year with cancer. MR N. J. M. REIN. The death which occurred at Incarcargill on 10th inst., of Mr N. J. M. Rein, severs another link with the early associations of InvercargiU. Mr Rein was born in Norway 73 years ago and came to New Zealand on the Star of China in 1872. lor two vears after arrival he was associated with the well-known jewellery nrm ot "Peterson's" of Otmsiclirucn and at. the end of that time he went to InvercargiU. where he had lived for the pas, 52 vears, engaged in the jewellery business. For the past 40 years he had been in business on his own account, and the old-established firm still occu-» pies premises in Dee street Invercargill and is know- -s <-e of the best jewellery businesses in the bout.. Tel 3TIQ Mr Rein-managed the buisenss peruntil about a month ago, when he sold out to a private company. The late Mr Rein was known throughout the Southland Province as a most generous cit.zen, ever-ready to assTst in any good cause. He was an active and consistent member of the Iconic fraternity for over 40 years, and held the high office ot Grand arden in that Order.
