GREYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.

(special to "Ttne rmess.") GRETMOOTH, August 13. The Greymouth Borough Council Met to-night. Present: The Mayor (Mr >Y. H. Parfitt) afid Crs. J. B. Kent, J. TV. Greenslade, J. ItcGiniey, ft, R. Herker, B. F. Doogan, G. Perotti, R. Williams and F. A. Kitchwrhizti. The Mayor reported that the Comity Courtoil had declined to contribute towards the cost of a West Coast court at the Dunedin Exhibition. The Borongh Counell's decision to withdraw its vote for the project in the event of an adverse resolution being Carried by the County Council thus came into effect automatically. The District' Railway Engineer adrised that -the Department consented to the beautifying of the portion of tiie Yettrte occupied by Mr W. Sampson. A letter was received from the West Coast Rugby League asking whether the Ceuneil had done anything regarding its application for the use of the United pavilion as * change room for lower grade players. The letter stated that two fifth grade and a sixth grade team were due from Christchurch shortly. The Mayor reported that the United Football Club had refused the use of the pavilion. It was rosolted to Teply to this Affect and to advise the League that the whole question of the Recreation Ground -would be gone into at an early date. C'r. Williams said it seemed very unsportsmanlike and unneighbourly to refute to allow teams from Canterbury to use the pavilion. The West Coast A. and P. Association was granted the use of the Municipal Chambers for its annual meeting. A letter was read from the Grey Branch of the Automobile Association protesting against the parking of cars on both sides of High street near the Recreation UTonnd on Saturday afternoons, and in Mawhera quay, 'iho communication was referred to the traffic inspector. The Electric Power Board applied for permission to cross Cobden bridge with high tension wires for supplying,Cobden and Kunanja with electricity. The application ■pas referred to the engines*. Mr J.
