The wharves in the. various ports presented busy scenes yesterday after the recent idleness. Thirteen stoamers sailed from Sydney. The shipping master reports that fifteen vessels secured crews yesterday,! when the officers signed on 957 men. Strenuous efforts are being made by,j the maritime unions to settle the dispute with the Newcastle and Hunter Company regarding the employment of volunteers. MELBOUENE, August 8. Twelve vessels obtained crews yesterday, and six left port during the day.
WATERSIDE LABOUR. ROTARY SYSTEM REJECTED. August 8 By an overwhelming majority a meeting of the Brisbane'branch of the Watergiders' Federation rejected a resolution from the State Conference recommending that all hrancheß should immediately draw up and put into operation a rotary system fa?-the supply of labour at each port.
