The sale is in aid of the Sumner Plunket Society and will be under the management of Mrs Guy Pascoe and her committee. , The Christchurch Jazz Club will commence the second session of this dancing season on Friday, the 37th inst. Arrangements are well in hand for the cabaret dance, which is always held at the Art Gallery in Grand National Week, and has become such a popular function. The membership subscription for this session covers the race week dance, and the list is filling rapidly. ■ ■

Tho monthly meeting of the Sydenham Branch of the W.C.T.TL was held in the Baptist Schoolroom, Colombo street South! In the absence of the president ' through sickness, Mrs Archer, vicepresident, presided. Although the day ■was very wet, there was a fair attendance. A silent vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mrs Marks, who had been a faithful member of tho Union and who had passed away suddenly. The members also expressed their sympathy with Mrs Sirett and Mrs Mauchlin in their sickness. Mrs Archer announced that a home meeting had been held during tho month at Mrs Hoddinott's house, when Miss Henderson gave a ivery interesting address. It was decided that the next home meeting should be held on the fourth Thursday of the month at Mrs Archer's house. It hrid been decided, at the last meeting that "a cup and saucer social" was to be held, and as several of the performers were present and the business was concluded the following gave items:—Miss Watt, piano-

BALL AT LYNDHURST. ' The spinsters of Lyndhurst held their annual ball in the ~ Lyndhurst Public Hall on Wednesday evening. There were over ICO couples present and the function was a very enjoyable and successful one. A capable committee, consisting of Misses Dickie (2), Robinson (2), E. Hale, M. Ross.'McKendry (3), Reid, E. Breach, E. Chambers, Lilley (2), and Tallott, had charge of the arrangements, while the secretarial duties were in the efficient hands of Misses P. McKendry and J. Robinson. The music was supplied by McDonald's full orchestra and left nothing to bo desired. During the evening several special dances were held, including a "Lucky Spot" waltz, which was won by Miss E. Reid and her partner, and a Cinderella dance, which was won bv Mr R. Scoon and Miss M. BATCHELOR—SHELTOX. At St. Paul's Church. Cashel street, recently, a. very pretty wedding was solemnised, when Gertrude Frances, ! third daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Shel- ! ton, of Islington, was married to Joseph Henry, third son of Mr and Mrs \V. J. Batchelor, of " Wychiugham," Balcairn. The Rev. J. S. Reid was the officiating minister, and Mr Raynor White presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away .by her father, looked very dainty in her frock of ivory marocain. cut on straight lines with an' inset front panel of silver lace, and cascades tailing from each side/ A streamer of the same material, caught on either shoulder with a silver tissue ruse, and finished with small silver tassels, lent a very <-(u;:int effect. The sleeves were also of silver lace, coming to the elbow. Her veil, falling softly from a circlet of orange blossom, was "of Brussels net edged with Hornton han.'l-made lace, and iuset were Honiton nedallions. A rope of pearls completed a dainty toilette. Miss May Shelton, sister of the bride, attended her as bridesmaid, wear- | ing a becoming frock of shell pink satin, with side-panels and trimmings I from the shoulder of georgette to tone, finished with handmade pink and blue flowers. Her hat of black crinoline was I trimmed with small wreaths of pink and ■ blue, forget-me-nots, with streamers of j the same colour caught to the arm by j an armlet of hand-made flowers. and sleeves with touches of pink, whilst round her head she wore a bandeau of silver leaves. She also carried an early Victorian posy with streamers of shades to tone.

Mr S. G. Prebble performed the duties of best man. As the bride and bridegroom were leaving the church the little flowergirl presented the bride with a silver horseshoe. After the ceremony a reception was held at Jellicoo Hall, where the tables were artistically decorated, Mrs Shelton received her guests wearing a smart navy tailored costume neatly braided, whilst her hat of navy satin was relieved with a touch of lemon, and she wore a spray of violets. Mrs Batchelor, mother of the bridegroom, wore an attractive costume of nigger gabardine braided in the same shade, and a black hat with gold finishings. A black fur was also worn, and she wore a spray of violets. After the usual toasts were honoured, Mr and Mrs Batchelor left on their tour for the north, the latter wearing a smart cinnamon coat-frock braided in Oriental colours, with a toque of duvetyn to match, and a black fur.

HALL—ANDREWS. At St. Barnabas's Church, Femlalton, yesterday afternoon, the marriage was solemnised of Joy, only child of tba late Mr J. P. Andrews, and of Mrs Andrews,. Fendalton, and Peter Dryden, second son of Mr and Mrs J. D. Ball, of Park terrace, Christchurch, and of flororata. The Hev. Stephen Parr was tho officiating clergyman, and Mr Strachah, the organist, played suitable nuptial music. Tho wedding was extremely quiet and no bridesmaids or groomsmen were in attendance. .The bride was given away by Mr Maurice Gresson, her guardian, and an old friend of her family. ' She wore a distinctive frock of powder blue, georgette, and a chic little hat; which suited her to perfection. Mrs Andrews wore a handsome gown of black marocain with apfon panel, effectively embroidered i« Oriental colours, and a smart black hat, in which were repeated the colours of the embroidery. Immediately after the ceremony, Mrs Andrews held a small reception at her home at Fendalton, the guests being limited to near relatives of tho bride and bridegroom. Later Mr and Mrs Peter Hall left en route for Sydney, where the honeymoon will' be spent. The bride travelled in a simply-made frock of brown crepe de chine with hat to match, and a beautiful musquash coat with skunk collar.
