TARIFF TREATY.
CANADA AND WEST INDIES. SUBSIDISED STEAMER SERVICE. (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGUT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received July 9th, 8.15 p.m.) OTTAWA, July 8.
According to tho text of the trade agreement between tho West Indies arid Canada, the former gives Canada tariff preferences on flour, butter, cheese, lard, condensed milk, meats of all kinds, fi3h, apples, and potatoes.
The agreement provides for two steamship services, a passenger mail freight fortnightly from Canadian ocean ports all tho year round, and a second service of smaller vessels from Canadian river ports in the summer, and ocean ports in tho winter. All freight rates arc subject to control by the Canadian Government. Toward the service the West Indies contribute £29,000 annually, and an additional subsidy for certain calls by steamers. Canada extends tariff preference on a large list of tropical products.
