The historical section at the Public Library has been enhanced by an important addition in tbe shape of a number of books which Were tormerly the property of the Government Immigration Officer for Canterbury. The books, which contain the dates of the arrival in New Zealand and departure from England, ot' immigrant ships during the early clays, were formerly kept in"a room at the rear of the old Provincial Council Chamber, but as the Lands and Deeds Department, has taken possession of the space, the records have been handed to the Public Librarv authorities.
