MOTORISTS AND FOOTBALL.
A task that has to be undertaken regularly every week-end during the football season by Mr H. Mcintosh, City Motor Inspector, and His staff, is that of controlling traffic in the vicinity of Lancaster Park. Generally, three officials are engaged in the work, which keeps them busy from about half an hour before a match commences until a few minutes afterwards. Some idea of the number of spectators who use this means of transport will be gained when /it is stated that the average number of motor-cars which are parked on a Saturday afternoon along both sides of Moorhouse avenue extension is about 300. The parking is carried out with very little delay, the great majority of drivers being letter perfect in thenparts, having gone through the procedure so often before. The cars are always drawn up facing the east, this being insisted on so that they will not be driven across Lancaster street'to the inconvenience of pedestrians coming away from the Park. ' Occasionally, motorists have asked why their car's should be parked so close to those in front of and behind them. The reason is that it does not allow of backing to drive away, and is thus a check on those people who like to take a joy ride at another person's ex-
pense. .
