NORTH BEACH NOTES.

At a meeting of the ■ North, Eeacli School Committee, Mr E. -A.. M.. Leaver'presided. The headmaster, Mr J. F. Wilson, reported the roll number to.be 227 and tho.averageattendance 206. It -was decided to apply to the Education Board lor assistance in asphalting a portion of tho erounds; The agricultural instructor having recommended that the garden plot at the school be fenced, and that' a new fence be erected along the boundary of the playground, it -was decided to make application to the Board to have this work done. Iu connexion with the projected visit of tho American Fieqt, it was left to tho headmaster to make arrangements for taking the children to view tho ships. Messrs Freeborn, Hutton, and the Rev. W. F. Knowles were elected delegates to the School Committees' Association. Mr A. Florance's offer to provide horses and drays for levelling the grounds was accepted with thanks. Mr John Deans, of Homebush. offered to give an address to the children o:i : the subject of "Foiestry." The offor was accepted with thanks, and arrangements were made for keeping Arbor Day on a date to bo Arranged by the headmaster. A resolution supporting the Religious Exercises in Schools Bill was passed. ' Messrs Huiton and Instona were appointed a visiting. committee for the month. The headmaster reported that a number of gramophone records' had been re-, ceived, and that the school gramophone was proving a great success as a help to education. A meeting of the Gala Committee was held in tho Memorial Hall, when Mr .E. A. M. Leaver presided. Tho chairman reported that the furniture for the hall had been purchased, as had ulso the crockery for the supper-room. An anonymous dotior had given thirteen card tables to the committee. . Iq connexion .with the coming coronation ceremony, it was reported that throne, carpet, stool, and other furniture had been procured. Ii was decided to ask Mr D.G. Sullivan, M.1?., the Mayor of New Brighton (Mr J. Gamble), and tho Hon. G. W. Jlussell to speak at the opening of the hall. Mrs Hulme, who is arranging the crowning ceremony, outlined the programme, which met with unanimous approval. Mesdames T. Barker r.nd D. Wilson were appointed a sub-committee to carry out a special purchase authorised. The 1924 gala necrotary, Mr F. J. Lawronco Scott, tendered his resignation.. as he no'longer had the time to give ,to the wo:k. The meeting declined to accept Mr Scott's resignation. A motion of sympathy with 'the relatives of the late Mr R. C. Bishop was.passed on the motion of the chairman, who stated that the.late .Mr Bishop had been a real friend to North Beach, having assisted materially with its advancement.
