HEATHCOTE NEWS.
Welcome Social, A 'very pleasant function in the form o£ a welcome social to the new ministers, the Rev. W. H. fcipecr and the Kev. G. it. Petersen, took- placo in tho Methodist Sunday School room on Wedneaday evening. Mr A. Beckett presided over a good representation of church people. Mr W. Buxnell, on behalf of tho church and Sunday School welcomed the ministers, iand trusted that their connexion with tho Hoathcote Church, the oldest in tho circuit, would bo of tho 'happiest. Others who spoke were: Mrs A. Beckett, on behalf of tho ladies; Mrn W. Huston, on behalf of the choir, and Mr IM. A. McDoivell, on behalf of the Youing Men's Bible Class. Mr Speer, in replying, thanked tho peoplo for their welcome, and asked for their co-operntion in his work. Mr Petersen also thanked tho people. Tho chairman read an apology from tho Rev. T. J. Wallis, tho lato minister. Mr Wallia will be tho recipient of an umbrella from the church people. Tho programme consisted of games and. items contributed by the following:—Mis? B. Williams (pianoforte), Miss A.' Oefgen '(song), Misses E. Beckingsale and J."" Pegler (duet), Mrs Smith (eong>, and Mrs (duet), Mrs Smith (song), Miss F. Raymon (violin solo), iand the choir. Mm Loncy, Mrs Nelson, and Mißs D. Weatbrooke iaked as accompanists. Supper was served by tha ladies. / Damage to Telephone Box. Early yesterday morning the lecal telephone slot was run into by a motor and damaged slightly at the baee. Had it not been for tho support given by a pipe containing tho wires, the box would probably liavo fallen ccinpletely over.
