TO TOE KDITOR OF "TTK WW*-" Sir, —It is refreshing to find a wan in tho position of the Bishop of Birmingham with tho courage to sp«»k fc'w convictions on the subject of feitt!s control, and all thoughtful people will welcoiuo tho frankness and sanity witi which ho makes his plea. It is high time the social eoasciese* was aroused on these questions. Ti«-« never has been an age, as the cynk.U bachelor you quoted the other day complains, when so much attention has be** paid to children and child welfare, aad rightly so. But no amount of organisation for child welfare will strike at tho root of tho evil; the ctU Bes deeper than that; and so long as It is the practice for people with no means or qs&lt- | fications (the latter is every bit as impartant as the former) for rearing children to beget large families of eawantod children, the evil win go on increasing. It is an absolute blot <m civilisation that men or women suffering from diseases which are bound ro affect their offspring are allowed to marry. Yet such marriages take place daily, and tho Church actually gi*e* them its blessing. All the more «*dit» then, to a churchman in high position who has tho courage and sense to speak out against this. If only tho social conscience can b* arouaod on these questions, thea thero will be soma hope' of eliminating want, warfare, di»easo, and all the boat of social ovila from which wc suffer, and of making tho world a better place. Our concern is not whether V£~aro enough whito children being hi "in God's nature," to pot op a g»\ fight against the coloured race*.
