HURUNUI RABBIT
TRUSTEES.
Tlic monthly meeting of the Hurunui Rabbit Trustees was held at Hawarden. there being present Messrs James Heasley (in the chairV V. Ilanmer Atkinson, W. J. McMillan, John Sloss, and J. Munro. Before commencing the ordinary business, Mr Heasley spoke of the severe loss suffered s':nee the last meeting through the death of the late Prime Minister. Mr Massey. He moved that a minute be recorded of the Board's appreciation of the valuable services rendered bv the late Mr Massey to the Empire as a whole and the Dominion in particular during the last thirteen years, and that a letter of condolence be forwarded to Mrs Massey and family ex-pressing-the members' heartfelt sympathy in their bereavement. Tile reports of the four inspectors and the caretakers were considered. Thev showed that in some parts of the district sufficient work had not been done, and the chief inspector was instructed to take the necessary steps to put delinquents under notice. The inspector referred to the caretaker's report on the damage done by cattle to the fence in the Hanmer district. This fence runs through swampy ground, and it may be necessary to have it strengthened. Mr Atkinson undertook to interview the adjoining owners on the matter and report at the next meeting. Mr Atkinson also recommended that willows should be planted to' protect a portion of the fence from the encroachment of the IVreivnl Tiiver, but. this matter was left over until the next meeting. Inspector Somervillc was instructed to interview an owner in the northern part of the district and explain to him the boundaries of the Board's district* On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Atkinson, leave of absence was granted Mr J. H. L. liiatt during his trip to Australia, in accordance with his request.
The statements of the revenue account and receipts and payment account for the yea,r ended December 31st, 1924, and the balance-sheet as at that date as audited and signed by the Government Auditor, were duly read, approved, and adopted, the chairman and treasurer signing them. Mr Sloss, who undertook to lend the Board's Inspector in the Motuuau district a whare to store his chaff in, was given power to arrange for the use of a small section of land for the- inspector.
