Rome was without electric current one day last month. Trams were stopped for half an hour just at luncheon time, power being lacking. At first no explanation could be given; then it was found that a tradesman on the Appian Way, wishing to add to his income, had stolen a quantity of copper telephone wire in an isolated road in his district. When getting down, after, cutting the wire, he slipped, so thai his boot came in contact with the electric power wires, causing a short circuit and cutting off Rome's supply.
