DIXIELAND.
One ofHhe most successful functions yet held at Dixieland took place last night, when a carnival dance was held to. celebrate the official opening of the new extensions, which ceremony was performed by Captain Taliu Rhodes. The three factors of the King's Birthday holiday, a carnival dance, and the special. function of the evening combined to attract a very largo number of dancers. Dixieland's one fault—that there was not more of it—has dis-* appeared with the completion of the extensions. The dance floor, supperroom and lounge have been almost doubled in size, and the lounge especially. has been> made exceptionally inviting. Last night's special decorations were in keeping with the gaiety of the evening. Colourful streamers and hangings, and a.,lavish use of flowers and ferns were the principal features, and the effect was enhanced by a judicious arrangement of coloured and shaded lights. During the evening Miss Mulvany Gray gave an exhibition dance, which was received with great applause. The Hon. Mrs Tahu Rhodes was presented Vith a beautiful bouquet by Mr.and Mrs Dickson. Among the guests present were:— Captain and the Hon.
