Information now disclosed shows that the •mall steamer Orewa, bound from Auckland to. Hokitika, which put into Gisborno a few days ago for repairs, had a perilous experience. Tlie vessel was badly etrained, making water, to «ucli an extent that the coal could not be taken from the bunkers in the usual ■ way; but had to bo taken from the hatchways and parried in kerosene tins to the flooded stokehold. eeaa were encountered, and at one time it was-feared that the steamer would not 'survive.
