♦ SOUTHBRTOGE. The rainfall for the month of May, •ns registered locally, -was 3.&4 inclies, and for the. same month last year o.US inches. Twenty frosts were recorded during May. the hardest being 11 degrees. HALSWELL. The weather for the past week, has been Tory .dull and cold, bnt favourable for potato-digenng and farm work. At the second of the series of cuchro and danco parties, in aid of tho foothall Huh. the winners were: Ladies, Miss I. Hahn 1, Mrs A. Ell 2: gentlemen. Mr S. Sparks 1, Mr C. Payne 2. Tho dance music was supplied hy Miss Mooro and extras were played by Miss Y) Redmond. Mr R. Harrison was M.C. A football match was played between the local school and Prebbleton, the game going to tho local boys by 'JO points to 3. Messrs L. Brown and T. Nottingham, who were recently injured in a football match, nre making slow progress. Miss Tl. Redmond (Halswell) is a guest of Mrs Mcßae (Balmoral).
