I The Government has decided to sen<l two natval airplanes by steamer to Spitsbergen to assist in the search for Captain Amundsen. The airplanes will reach Spitsbergen at the end .of next week. It is generally the opinion that Amundsen is unable to return by air and is making for Cape Columbia or Spitzbergen on foot. The president of the Norwegian Aero Club says that the parties to search for Amundsen will operate from three | bases. Firstly, seaplanes will co-operate with the Hobby at tho ice barrier north of Spitzbergen, flying in widening circles northwards.' Secondly, a party will work from Cape Columbia, where Commander MacMillan's American flying expedition will operate. The third | party will begin from East Greenland, whence the French leader, Dt. The Hobby reports that the edge of the Polar ice is rough and twisted for miles inward, and would be most difficult to cross. - It is believed that the 'pknes were damaged on landing, and that tho party is footing it to Cape Columbia.
