The "War' Memorial Cup,' played at Shirley yesterday, resulted in a win for K. W. Ballantyno who, playing on a 16. handicap, returned a net fcoro for the two rounds of 148. This is nine strokes better than last year's score, and Bnllantyne was seven strokes better than the runner-up, M. H. Godby, who did 153. The individual scores for tho two rounds were as follows

The annual King's birthday golf tournament una<er the auspices of the Timaru Goli Club, was held at the Highfield links to-day in splendid golfing weather, 'ihc gxeena and lairways were in excellent order, and the course generally was in batter condition than at any previous tournament. Tha competitions attracted 84 entries, including 31 from -foreign clubs. Chriatchurch, North Otago, Waimate, Temuka and Pleasant Point were well, represented. B. V..Wright, the youthful Timaru ; player, again won the. South Canterbury championship in tty excellent rounds of 79 each. E. 'Wright (Mayfield) was- runner-up with an aggregate of 161. H. W. Macfarlane (Christchurch) gained third place with 162, but M. Mcßeth, the other Christchurch crack, went to pieces in the second- round and came in with an aggregate of 174. and the afternoon by C. F. Clarke, 93-24-69. Timaru B -won -the teams handicap match ■with a total. of 322.

In presenting the prizes at the conclusion of the tournament, the president (Mr F. C. May) referred to tho great improvement which had bpen effected in the course nnd to the club's indebtedness to the Ladies' Club - for its assistance. '■ Ht Mcßeth returned thanks on behalt of the visitors.
