■ ♦ PARKER DEFEATS CADMAN. REFEREE STOPS CONTEST. A boxing con'est was staged by tlio Christchurch Amateur Sports Club in King Edward Barracks last night, ,whcn the principal attraction was the meeting between Eddie Parker, of Hastings, light-heavy-weight champion ot New Zealand (12sf), and Laurie Cadman, of Auckland (list 7lb). There wa3 a large attendance of spectators. The professional bout proved disappointing, beiug stopped at the ninth round and the decision awarded to Parker. Mr W. Pago was the referee. . Some rattling- exchanges of swift body llows opened tlie contest, Parker sendin" in rightsi «nd lefts to either side oi the face. G'hdman countered with his left and swung tho light to the body. Leading with a straight left, Parker cross-countered with hiA rig Kit an'd . landed on his opponent's left car. In tho third round Parker brought across a, hard ,right to tho face and followed' up with both gloves. Cadman retaliated with a straight right, connecting with Parker's head. "After a series of rapid exchanges.,- Cadman swung hi 3 left round to good effect. A heavy downward right from Cadman just missed his man in tho middle of round four, and Parker rushed in, connecting with tho chin by a vicious uppercut." Cadman tried a rush, but overreached and tho Hastings man got in some good body blowis. Cadman's agility gained him, a. little advantage, and he put, in some good work in the fifth round, feinting with his left and swinging the right across to tho body, but Parker got ahead wtih swift successive blows W tlio faco and body. Cadmnn missed badly with a left swing in the sixth round, and '.a, moment later the same thing happened with a right. Parker was scoring- with his left all tho time until Cadman swung his right to the iheart and connected to some advantage. He tippercut heavily with his right and followed it with a left ■ swing several times in the seventh round, but-did not connect. Parker's defence" waa solid, iand he fought off most of his opponent's uppnrcute. and left Swings. On two or three occasions Cadman went to . tho canvas from a hard left, and took a. spell. In the nintji round he went down again, the fourth time from the commencement of the fight,. -which was' stopped by the referee and the decision given to Parker. Cadman' showed signs of punishment but' Parker was unmarked. Preliminaries. Four amateur bouts, 'each of six twominute rounds, 'preceded the professional bout, iand some attractive boxing was seen, the opening bout especially, between Emerson and Minards,. being very willing and full of incident. Tho middle-weight class produced plenty of variety, the men being well matched. ' Gardiner showed a good straight left lead, and occasionally brought' across a heavy right. Pocock put in some good work in the'last three rcunds. Appearing in' the light-weight, Moulin andi Jaggers provided an interesting bout. Moulin stalled his man off with his left., and brought his right across to- advantage. Jaggers swung a solid right and gained in the in-fighting. A paund separated the weights in the.lightheavy section. Up till the third round things were fairly even, but in the latter part of the/ bout. Stone chased his opponent round the ring.
