OBITUARY.

A Paris cable announces the death of L'ucien Guitry, an actor who was little known outside of Eussia and France, at the age of 65. He spent nine years in Eussia in association with the Theatre Michael in the capital city, and was later manager of the Porte St. Martin and director of the Eenaissance Theatre, Paris. . On Sunday there.passed away, at his residence, Lome, Mr Alexander Bisset, one of the best known and most popular men in the farming and oommercial circles, of Southland. The late Mr Bisset, who reached the age of 63 years, was a man of outstanding integrity. His father and mother brought up their family at Orari in the good old Scottish way and, respected themselves, they passed on' this desirable attribute to their eons, (says the "Southland Times"). Mr Bisset commenced _his career on the land, and was at one time president of the Caledonian Society at Temuka. .It was there, at the Society's Inglesides, that he first met "his wife a then Miss Lyon. As a farmer his ability was marked in both agriculture and iii the handling of sheep and cattle. He was very successful and his advice was much sought after, many in Canterbury, and Southland profiting by his guidance. He indium owned, farms at South Hitfend, Isla Bank, and; Lome,' and his genial hospitality, cdmoined with his fine character, made him many friends. Mr Bisset had a great liking for "the sport of Kings." Beginning' with Semolina, his. colours, have always, been, honourably., known, onCanterbury and Southland racecourses.'' Mr Bisset had a family of two sons and two daughters. .Miss Elsie Bisset is submatron of the Southland Hospital,. Miss Rene Bisset resides with her parents, Mr Chris. Bisset is on .the farm, and Mr Alister' Bisset ie with Messrs Wriglit, Stephenson and Co.
