Some idea of how Antoicm cititt are expected to advance in their growth was afforded when Mr H. W. Corbett, president of the Architwtural of New York, addressing the Architectural and Allied Arts Exposition at the Grand Central Palace in New York, aaid that New York o? 50 year* heare will be a titanic city half a mile high, 75 miles long, and 50 Mies wide. "AH automobile traffic will disappear fraa the surface or thoroughfares," nidi Mr Corbett. "New.York will be & titaaia city, with traffie moving through tabes, movable platforms, and escalating galleries.- People will be shot through tubes 50 miles, long in 39 minutes." Many American titles, like New York, * are . eoaxiaced that the only feasible method to relieve congestion on the surface Is to adopt the system in London of underground railways, and San Francisco, Chicago, and Pittsburg believe a system of tubes for all classes of traffic is the only real solution to expedite traffic.
