145,000 AT MOTOR RACES

At Indianapolis, Pete de Paola, nephew of the famous Ralph de Palma, piloted a Duesdenberg special on a now record at the thirteenth annual 500-mile automobile race before 145,000 spectators', tho largest assemblage ever witnessed at a sporting event in America. Benny Hill was second and Phil Shafer third. De Paola drove all the way, his time being 4 hours 36 minutes 39J seconds, an average of Elightly more than 101 miles an hour, nine minutes "better than tho previous record. Twenty-two drivers started at Michigan City, Indiana.
