ASHBURTON HIGH SCHOOL.
OLD PUPILS' ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting of the Ashburton High School Pupils' Association was held, last evening, Mr L. R. Clsurko presiding.
It was decided to forward a message of sympathy to Mrs Massey. The committee's annual report stated that the year had been ouito as successful as ita predecessors, and it was with pleasure they, noted the old pupils' renewed interest m the Association. The number of financial old pupils 011 the roll was approximately 320, Tho one Outstanding item of the year was the. opening of the memorial library, and tho unveiling of the. memorial tablets to old boys of the school who fell in -the Great War. Both functions were performed by tho Hon. Dovrnie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs, the Association being represented by its president. The cost of the memorial library orected bv tho staff and pupils of tho school, and the memorial tablets erected by the old pupils of 'the school, was £I2GO and £537 respectively, making a total cost of £1197. Tho memorial fund account showed a credit, balance of £3 13s 10d, while tho general account showed a credit balance at bank of £l3 17s lOd. It was intended to do something in order to -raieo funds to purchase some of tho more expensive books for the. memorial -library for the use- of pupils, and it was hoped that all old pupils would j do their best in the matter. ! The chairman said the Association always aimed at accomplishing something during 1 -each year. "What it waa going to attempt in the ooming year he did not know, but it ■ should direct iik attention towards the High School. He wished to express his appreciation of the work of tho school staff in raising funds for the memorial library and to the eecretary, Mr D. W. Buchanan, and tho treasurer, Mr J. Mcßae, fCr the able manner in which they had attended to the business of'the Association. The regort was adopted.. . The election of officers resulted aa follo\y3:—President, Ur L. R. Clarke; vicepresidents, Messrs H. R. C. McElrea, E. .t. Orr, and J. B. Christian;. secretary, Mr D. W- Buchanan; treasurer, ill' J. M. "McRae: committee-, Miascs C. ■ Jiowdeil, N. Bowden and E. Bolton, and Messrs M.. Johnson, A. F'. Christie, and C. J. Borinington. It was decided ±o recommend the. incoming committee to -hold a ball with a view., to purchasing suitable books for the war memorial library..
