There are people living in England who have seen the stocks in use. The last recorded case was at Rugby, in 1860, just 60 vcars ago, but they were in regular use* at Warwick in tho early 'soventics, when tho offender, usually a "drunk," was hoisted, stocks and all, on to a cart and rattled over tho cobbles round tho market square. Parliament has never deemed it worth while to repeal the Act which enforced the erection of the stocks in evory Tillage.
