The last recorded case was at Rugby, in 1860, just 60 vcars ago, but they were in regular use* at Warwick in tho early 'soventics, when tho offender, usually a "drunk," was hoisted, stocks and all, on to a cart and rattled over tho cobbles round tho market square.
