TIMARU. Social and Personal Mrs Walter Chapman (Shirley), who was in Timaru, returned to Christchurch on Tuesday. Mrs Malcolm Miller (Wellington), who was at "Otiritirl," Gleniti, left vesterdav for Greymouth.

Mrs Pinekney (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs Arthur Barker (Geraldine). Miss B. Butherford (Dunedin) is with Mrs J. A. Clowes (Wai-iti road). Miss Dorothv Gray (Seaview terrace) left on Tuesday for Christehurch. Mr and Mrs James Innes (Haklon) am in Timaru. Mr and Mrs Owen Howell (tattle Valley) are back from Huxley Gorge. Mr and Mrs H. A. le Crcn and Miss le Crcn (Fairlie) are spending a week in Timaru. Misses C. and L. Maddrcn (Winchester) arc spending a holiday in the North Island. . Mrs Buckley (North Canterbury) is the guest of Mrs G. V. Gerard (Branscombe street). Miss Florence Clissold (North street) has returned from a visit to Mrs L. Bellingham (Hamilton). Mr Hugh Knubley, who fras with Mr and Mrs William Raymond (Nile street), returned to North Canterbury yesterday. Mr and Mrs W. T. Mathieson and family (Christchurch) have taken up residence at "Hokonui," lo Cren s terrace. . Mr and Mrs T. W. MacKenzie (Waihaorunga) have taken Mr T. Tarr's house in Wai-iti road for a year. Miss McKenzic (Auckland) is at present their guest. Mr and Mrs Sliolto Douglas (London) have returned from a cehort visit to Mrs W. F. Hamilton ("Ashwick"), and arc now in Timaru. They will leave for England by the s.s. Aorangi. The engagement is announced of Mr Wilfred Bradley, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Bradley (High street), to Miss Alice Shillito, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. H. Shillito (Elizabeth street).

Tie Weather. Yesterday Timaru experienced the first nor'-wester which has blown here for a Considerable time. The wind was light, however, and but for the unusual warmth of the atmosphere was hardly recognisable as a nor'-wester. Magistrate's Court. At the Timaru Magistrate's Court yesterday, A. Latimer (Mr C. W. Webber) proceeded against Charles Mills (Mr A. L. Hudson) for £8 12s 6d, wages due in lieu of notice and remuneration for work done. After hearing the evidence, Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., gave judgment for plaintiff for £2 and costs. A. E. Lewis (Mr G. H. E. Ulrich) was successful in an action against J. W. Falska (Mr J. Emslie) for £l3, fees for preparation of architect's plans.

Supreme Court. The following is the list of cases set down for hearing aPthe May sessions of the Supremo Court, which commenco at Timaru on Tuesday next: —

Criminal.—Eex v. J. P. Murray, alleged thejft and forgery; Eex v. South, alleged carnal knowledge; Eex v. Hoad, alleged murder. Civil.—Wade v. Gallon, claim for declaration of partnership and account; Kirk v. Tarrant, claim for possession; Connolly v. Oldfield, claim for possession of land; McLeod v..Yorkshire Insurance Co., Ltd.; Bates v. Queensland Insurance Co., Ltd.; Waituna-Waimate Fruitlands, Ltd., v. Meredith and Smith, claim for interest due.

Originating Summonses.—Kennedy v. Kennedy and others, action for widow's maintenance; Brown v.' Brown and others, action for widow's maintenance. Divorce.—McLean v. McLean (undefended); Manchester v. Manchester, alleged habitual drunkenness and cruelty; Earnshaw v. Earnshawj Stumbles v. Stumbles. Miscellaneous. —Seven motions under Mortgages Extension Act, 1924, two motions for discharge from bankrutcy, and one motion under Trustees Act for an order sanctioning carrying on ■of business.

GERALDINE. As conductor of the Geraldine Musical Society, Mr E. White made a presentation, on behalf of the members, to Mrs Jenkins, who has been an active member of the society, and has also filled the position of honorary secretary for some time past. Mr "White spoke of the efficieat manner iu which Mrs Jenkins had performed the duties of the office and said that the members wished to mark their appreciation of her good services and to Wish her health and happiness. Mrs Jenkins, who is about to leave Geraldine, and to make her home at Kaikoura, suitably acknowledged the presentation and good wishes.
