The Union Company's cargo steamer Flora was to leave New Plymouth on Wednesday for Wcstport, thence Auckland, where she outers her new running in the Eastern Pacific service. Tho vescl is expected to clear Auckland on April 9th for Rarotonga, Aitutaki, .and Mangaia, to take in cargo- for Wellington.

UNION S.S. COMPANY'S ENTERPRISE.

Three new oil storage tanka erected for the Union Steam Ship Company by Anderson's, Cbristchurch, were completed, on Saturday, and are ready for reception of fuel duo this month. The installation now consists of five tanks, situated at Miramar and connected by pipes for dischargo and loading at the Miramai- wharf. When the tanks are full they will contain 40,000 tons ot fuel oil. Two tank steamers aro now on their way from San Luis Obispo, California, with fuel oil for the company's Miramar depot. They should arrive almost simultaneously, one having left for Welling ton on 26th and the other on March'27th. I Tlieir carsrocs aggregate 19,000 tons. | Wellington is now well placed on the lift of ports at which oil for bunkers and for Diesel engines can be obtained by slnppi.-ig. Of course, this increasing use ol oil icr fuel and for Diesel engines means the displacomont of a large quantity -,f coal sur l„ of ships. But the use of oil oiUjff directly in engines or as fuel for steam Rising is making great headway all over the world, and promises to go far in its applicaU To meet the increasing demand in Wellington, the Union Company has taken the engines and fittings out of its s.s. Bosamiind a w ft ll-known coaster, and turned her into an oil hulk, supplementary to the Addorley.
