Power for Greymouth,

The first practical steps in connexion with tlVe provision of electric power for Greymouth .and district will probably be taken next-week, when men wiil commence work on the preparation of the site for the. power house at Dobson. Several tenders have been received for this'work, and a meeting -of the Board will be held to-morrow, when ono will be accepted. : Mr'Lythgoc, the Board' 3 engineer, has arrived at a tentative agreement with the Bailway Department regarding the position'of" the railway siding.

Eggs Bring High Prices. A scarcity of eggs is reported locally and as much as 3s bM per dozen is being paid for this household commodity. A Collision. A head-on collision at Brunner between two motor-cars, one driven by Mr H. G. Carter, of Kamaka. the other by Mr P. Ives, of Greymouth, was fortunately not attended by injury for the occupants. Mr Ives' car, however, was somewhat seriously damaged.

At the Plunket Society's farewell to Nurse Spring, the opportunity was taken, to say a "good-bye" to Mrs A. E. Brockett and Mrs F. Easmussen, two energetic members of tho Westport Committee, who are shortly leaving Westport. The vital statistics for March are:— Births 10, deaths 3, marriages 1. Mrs A. W. Henley : has returned from a three months' visit to Mr and Mrs N. Greenland, Lyttclton.--Mr V. Wimsctt has been appointed secretary to the Westport'Boxing Association, in succession to Mr G. Parkinson, who has resigned. Mr Armstrong, tho newly appointed mine manager at Stockton, has: made considerable alterations in the working of the mine, and these are reported to be most acceptable to the miners!' The Borough Council, at its meeting last night, decided to enforce the bylaw compelling cyclists to fit their bicycles, with lamps arid bells. Accidents occurring lately through the nonuse of these accessories have compelled tho Council to take action. The Government has consented to the Buller Hospital Board borrowing sufficient money to make urgently needed extensions to the male ward. The plans have been completed, and the work will bo taken in hand, at an early date. At a special meeting of the Buller Hospital Board this afternoon, a resolution was ■ passed-empowering-th«-Board-to-borrow £7OO for electric light purposes.
