ROMANCE OF SILK FIRM'S MILLIONS. The career of Courtaulds, Ltd., the great firm of artificial silk and other fabric manufacturers, has been a. romance in finance (says a London paper). A few years ago the capital was £2,000,000. It is now £20,000,000, and the additional £18,000,000 has consisted of freo gifts to shareholders in the form of bonuses arising chiefly from the increased value placed on the company's holdings in the American enterprise known as the American Viscose Co. Two millions in ordinary shares was distributed in 1919, and another eight millions in the following year, while last year the proprietors were presented with eight millions in 5 per cent, preference shares. For 1924 the company -will pay a dividend of 20 per cent., tax free, on I'2 millions of ordinary shares, besides appropriating £1,650,000 to various reserve funds. Profits earned, exceeded £1,500,000 —nenriy 1J millions more than in the previous twelve months. •
